Hi Pam,
Rassau is a strong possibility. I can't be certain of the age of this Jenkin
Davies. Per the 1851 census, he was b. abt 1797 in Brecon. Going by
the 1841 census, he was age 35, so was born 1802 - 1806. It seems
they didn't know the ages of the children either. Not unusual.
The entire family as I know it:
Jenkin DAVIES, b. ca 1797(?), Brecon, prob. Llangynidr Parish
Gwenllian, b. ca 1803, Brecon, possibly Llanddeti Parish
Henry, b. abt 1825, Aberystruth, Mon.
Thomas, b. 20 Sep 1830, Aberystruth, Mon.
Catherine, b. 14 Apr 1832, Aberystruth, Mon.
Zephaniah, b. 1 Mar 1837, Aberystruth, Mon.
Margaret, b. 4 Jul 1841, Blaina, Aberystruth, Mon.
Margaret's date and place of birth were recorded in a family Bible via a
second-hand entry. I really should get her birth registration.
Thomas, Catherine and Zephaniah were all bapt. together in
Aberystruth 7 Oct 1838 (and birth dates recorded) At that time Jenkin
was living at Penygarn-?ach. (couldn't read the abode - can you
venture a guess?)
Margaret's son in 1919 stated on her death certificate (here in the
States) that her maiden name was MORGAN. I'm not so certain of that.
There was a Jenkin DAVIES and a Gwenllian HOWELL married 22 Jun
1823 in Aberystruth. Yes, she was a spinster. Both were of "this"
parish. Parents (unnamed of course) consented. John Roper and Mary
Powell were present. There was only one Jenkin and Gwenllian
DAVIES pair in the 1841 and 1851 Aberystruth censuses that I could
find.
However, On the same register page where the marriage of Jenkin
DAVIES and Gwenllian HOWELL is recorded is another record which
may, or may not, connect. This was for a William POWELL and a
Gwenllian MORGANS (widow) on 12 Jul 1823. An Evan and Catherine
DAVIES were present.
So. That's the sum total of what I have learned. Does any of this make
any sense to you?
Thank you for listening :-)

Hi,
Rassau, on the outskirts of |Ebbw Vale today, is included in the parish of
Llangynidr for census purposes. On the census it appears as Rassau entire.
I have several Jenkin Davies's from Rassau in my family tree. If you can
tell me more about him, I'll see if he is one of mine.
Pam Griffiths, from Rassau
