re Don's query-The first large scale OS maps were issued in 1875 too late for the 1851
census. What might be useful would be 1847 Tithe maps of the area-although you would have
to bear in mind the growth of some areas in a short space of time.

Dear Listers,
This week's 'Retrospective Images of Wales' webpages, just uploaded onto my
website, include:
1. The remote and windblown Gwrhyd Chapel high on Cefn Gwrhyd in the county
of Glamorgan (nine pictures). This feature was first shown on 'Images of
Wales' in November 1998.
2. A three-page illustrated account of the life in South Wales of the poet
Dylan Thomas. This feature was first shown on 'Images of Wales' in December
1999.
As usual, these webpages will be on display for one week.
'Retrospective Images of Wales' is at

Kind regards,
John

Looking for a Reverend Benjamin Rogers/Rodgers
who supposedly lived in Tredegar Monmouthshire.
He had a niece Alice Rodgers/Rogers who used her mother's maiden name
(Thomas)
and she married and removed to the United States with her father and 2
sisters.
thanks
jean

In working with old census..such as 1851, etc.. is there a key to finding
the actual building or place of residence.? another guide perhaps that goes
along with the census that will help pinpont the address or building of
residence?

Hi Don, try reading the enumeration notes at the beginning of each
enumeration area, this (should) hold the plan of action for the enumerator's
route around the district. Also you could get an old map relating to the
time of the census and try and pin point the buildings that way.
Happy hunting, Michael McAllister
