Hi Alan
Thank you for the reply, it is appreciated.
Yes I did mean Bedwellty House, sorry I got the name wrong. I've been away from Wales
for so many years,
it's difficult to remember all I once knew of Tredegar.
I remember seeing the photo of my grandmother, on the wall in Bedwellty House when I was a
child.
I now have a copy of my grandmother's death cert, and her last address.
If you remember Lena, then maybe you will also remember one or both of her sister's
that also went to the Church,
they were Liz and Enid? sorry I don't know their married names yet.
I'm shocked at hearing what has happened to Bedwellty House, I'm sure the casket
containing the soil from Burma,
and the other item's from Bedwellty House would be stored somewhere. I just don't
know who to ask.
Thank you again for the help.
Best wishes
Angela

House
Dear Angela
I assume that, when you refer to Tredegar house, you must mean Bedwellty
House in Tredegar Park which once belonged to Lord Tredegar. I remember
well that in the room on the right-hand side as you entered, there were lots
of photographs, one of which was concerned with Burma, but this focused on
an action fought at a hill subsequently named Tredegar Hill during the
Second World War. Some of the soldiers were Tredegar members of the South
Wales Borderers. The house has now, I believe, become a private old
people's home, and what has happened to the splendid collection of old
photographs, I do not know.
I and my family attended St James' church in the 1950s, and the name Lena
Davies rings a distant bell, but I can't fill out any detail. It should be
easy to get an address by getting hold of a death certificate which the
Register Office in Tredegar can probably supply. I have always found them
very helpful.
Best wishes

Hi Angela,
The church in Poplar Road Tredegar is St James' Church (Church of Wales) -
it is where I was married. There is another chapel also, but I cannot
remember the name of that one, sorry. Perhaps another lister could help?
Helen

Hi Listers
Does anyone on the list know what Chapel or Church there is or was on
Poplar
Road in Tredegar please?
My grandmother and 2 of her sisters went there when they were adults.
I know my grandmother was involved in Church/Chapel groups, and often
volunteered for various things.
My grandmother was in fact a Church/Chapel person her whole life. She was
born
in Tredegar in 1900 and died in 1970, her name was
LENA DAVIES nee WRIGHT. (Ring any bells for anyone?)
There was a framed photo of her on a wall in Tredegar house. I think it
had
something to do with Burma, but I'm not sure.
Does anyone know if the old framed photos are still there?
Any help or guidance appreciated
Regards
Angela
