I'm looking for confirmation of birth of JOHN PRICE 12 Apr 1820

Nantyglo, son of William Price and Sarah unknown. It appears the family
moved quite a bit and after reading the history of Nantyglo at that time
I can see why. The next birth in the family was allegedly Thomas born
in 1822 in Wainluggan, Montgomery, but I can find no reference to a
place of that name anywhere. Anybody have a clue? Any help would be
most appreciated. Thanks.
I was going to suggest that you take a look at the family of William Price &
Sarah Meredith, but a quick search on the LDS' IGI Family search, suggests
that these are two different families. They have the following entries for
John & Thomas, sons of William & Sarah PRICE, (information extracted from
Sealings for the Dead, rather than extractions from Parish Registers, and
the LDS insists on treating Monmouthshire as an English county - *growl*) :
John PRICE Birth: 12 Apr 1820
Thomas PRICE Birth: 1822
Waniluggan, Monmouth, England
Parents: William PRICE & Sarah
The reason I was going to suggest Sarah Meredith, is that they also had sons
John & Thomas amongst their extensive brood, with many of their descendants
braving the millpond to join the Mormons in Utah, and spreading out across
the States from there. The dates, however, don't tally:
John PRICE Birth: 1816
Thomas PRICE Birth: 20 Mar 1819
Ebbw Vale, Monmouth, England
Parents: William PRICE & Sarah MEREDITH
That family is the subject of many trees on the Rootsweb family tree site,
but the information on these trees is fraught with errors, which have
unfortunately been copied on to many of the other trees including this
family.
I can't find John or Thomas PRICE in the Nantyglo registers that are
available via the LDS website, and they come before civil registration of
births became compulsory in England & Wales (1837). Perhaps somebody else
could recommend what registers you would need to look at to find them.
Information gleaned from the LDS family search facility can sometimes be of
great use in helping to pinpoint which registers to search for more accurate
data, but not in this case!
Hopefully in the next fortnight, I'll be going up to nearby Tredegar, to
check up on some of my Price ancestors, so if you let me know who else
you're looking for, I'll keep my eyes out for your folks on the cnsuses,
too, though I wouldn't expect to come across them in the civil registers
that I'll be checking.
xx Kate.
