George & Jane - when were they born, this is important to know,
because if
they were old enough to have married before civil registration 1.July
1837,
then they may be on the GwentFHS marriage index 1813 - 37, after this date
they could have married in any of the many hundreds of churches in
Monmouthshire and including a registry office.
I have found a George & Jane Lewis on the 1851 census in Pontypool with
several children 33 & 32 born Trellech & Merthyr Tydfil, There is a George
Lewis marrying a Jane Thomas at Llanhilleth 18.1.1836 which fits with the
age of the children. The fact George Lewis was born Trellech means I would
have done is family pedigree.
I cant find this family on the 1861 census in Monmouthshire, which could
mean 2 things, they are on one of the many hundreds of census pages lost
during storage, or Ancestrys useless index. The GwentFHS more reliable
census index done by the late Ray Allen confirms that the family are not
on
the 1861 census in Trevethin.
So they could be there but on a lost page.
On the 1851 census 2449 Folio 453 Page 21 is an Evan & Elizabeth Thomas
above the Lewis family, they could be Jane's parents.
This may not be your family, but I cant find any sign of George or Jane
after this census.
