Dear Pam and all,
Nice to see you are up and running on your new ISP:))
Been busy the last few days, my birthday and also attending Llantrisant
Leisure Centre Family History Fair on Sunday. We represented Merthyr
Tydfil branch of Glamorgan Family History Society but ended up doing
lookups for Gwent, Powys and Glamorgan. Brenda, my wife and Mary
Watkins, from Merthyr were flat out all day with family research. I was
providing the refreshments;)) and yapping to everyone, as usual:))
Had a couple who came along to see us, two brothers, who were probably
in their early seventies. They had been researching pubs in Wales and
were extremely knowledgeable on all aspects of the trade. Think they
were mapping out all the old pubs and existing ones as well;))
Theoretical and definitely the practical side, if you know what I mean;)
The initial enquiry was the Beaufort Arms or Inn of which there are many
in Monmouthshire alone! What caught my attention was that the landlord
was a C? Morris. Pam, I know that your Morris's were in the Rassau and
Beaufort, were they Publicans? Couldn't find publicans, Morrris's, in
Beaufort Arms in Beaufort area on any census.
James Evans, from Govilon, was researching Bevan's. The family seemed to
be serial Innkeepers. The Chilton's, Bush and Bevans are being
researched by many from all over the world, from my own experience.
best regards
Barrie Jones, Gwent
