Hi, Barrie,
Unfortunately, my research is mainly on JONES, but in this case it is one of the
daughters, MARY ANN WOOLLEY, her husband, JOHN, and 8 of their children, Edwin, Martha,
Sarah, Ruth, Harriet, Mary Jane (Polly), James and William. They sailed in August 1873,
arriving in New York the 22 or 23 August. It seemed that perhaps a large family like that
all sailing together might have gotten some notice in a newspaper. They first went to
Mahoning County, Oh and then settled in Stark County.
I live very near the Cincinnati area which is in the southwestern end of the state from
Toledo about 200 miles away. I'd love it if there was a connection but I believe we
checked it out before and found none.
Thanks,
Helen

Subject: [Bla'Gwent] re-Blaenau Gwent Libraries Newspapers on microfilm-February
2005
Hello Helen,
From experience I know that Merthyr Tydfil library have West
Monmouthshire entries (see my reply to Mike McAlister on the list).
From what I can remember from my research at Newport reference library,
the Monmouthshire Merlin was more representative of Pontypool and
Newport area. Not sure of the Star of Gwent, but suspect the same.
Can you give me anything specific about your research and I will check
for you?
I haven't had a great chance to check out the newspapers at Tredegar to
that extent as they are a new acquisition.
By the way, my wife has cousin in Toledo whose family left Tredegar for
Pittsburg, Ohio about 1862!
best regards
Barrie Jones, Gwent FHS

Hi, Barrie,
I would be interested to know if any of the newspapers listed would have been
from the Ebbw Vale, or Pontypool area 1860-1875? Or if you know how one would
go about to find out? For example, the Monmouth Telegraph or the Monmouthshire
Merlin or the Star of Gwent, would any of these have been from Ebbw Vale to
Pontypool?
