Helen,
I am more used to Mattie being short for Matilda, so you might try that.
Regards,
Peter Williams

Subject: [BLAENAUGWENT] George and Mattie LEWIS Abertillery
Does anyone recognise this couple please? I know it's not much to
go on,
but it's costing me a fortune in 'wrong' LEWIS certificates!
George (born c1873) living at 128 Richmond Road Abertillery, from at least
1915 (this is the earliest register I've checked) till his death in 1945.
George's death is registered by an E.T.LEWIS from Ivydene, Christchurch,
Aberbeeg (but I couldn't find this address in the electoral register
unfortunately).
George's wife was called Mattie.
Mattie disappears from the electoral register in 1935 (valid from 15th Oct
1935 - no qualifying date given), so presumably she dies 1934/5.
Ancestry/LDS etc assume Mattie is a diminutive of Martha - any other
thoughts on what her full name might have been please?
Many thanks
Helen
