Thank you for that link. I really enjoyed the pictures!!! I'm looking for a hamlet
called Stanner in Radnorshire. I don't think it exists anymore. Thank you for
helping me anyway! I appreciate the Prices'. I don't know if they are the ones I
am looking for because the ones I need to start with were born around 1700. I'm
looking for James Evans and Martha or Jane Price who were the parents of Ellen Evans born
in Stanner, Radnorshire, Wales in Aug 1821.
Thank you very much,
Cynthia Lovell

I have direct line ancestors in Blina in the 1851 census, but I have
discovered something interesting today and found that possibly my "Evans"
ancestor might have been in Stanner, Radnorshire, Wales in the early 1800's.
Trouble is I can't find it on a map. I've found "Radnorshire" in a
pre-1974
county map, but I'm having trouble with this little town, village, hamlet.

Dear Cynthia,
Stanner is on the border between Wales and England. It is in the ancient
parish of Old Radnor, a small part of which crosses the border between
Radnorshire (Wales) and Herefordshire (England).
Stanner is at grid reference SO260582 on modern UK Ordnance Survey maps. You
can see the relevant 2-kilometre square section of a large scale Ordnance
Survey map at the Get-A-Map website
http://getamap.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/frames.htm
In the search section near the top left of the Get-A-Map webpage, enter
SO260582 into the search field and click the GO button. If necessary, zoom
in to successively larger scale maps by clicking on the zoom control buttons
to the middle left of the map. The largest scale map to appear will be a 2
km x 2 km section of a 1:25,000 scale 'Explorer' map centred on Stanner.
Stanner was a small hamlet in a limestone-quarrying area, and once had its
own railway station. The railway was closed circa 1960 and the system was
later dismantled. The main A44 highway from Worcester (Worcestershire,
England) to Aberystwyth (Cardiganshire, Wales) passes through Stanner a few
hundred yards west of the England-Wales border.
Kind regards,
John
