Hi Alan
Yes, that is very sad to hear. I think I only met Maria on one occasion; am I right in
thinking she used to be a JP? I have very fond memories of the Italian community as my
grandfather, Carlo (Charlie) Cordani was one of them, although he died two years before I
was born. They all pretty much originated from the same area of northern Italy; hopefully
I'll have another chance to visit later this year.
Regards
Mike

Dear Mike
Nice One. I too remember Cavanna well. I was deeply saddened on a recent visit
to Cefn Golau cemetery to see that both John and Albert are sleeping the sleep
of the just there. Their beautiful sister Maria returned to Italy many years
ago.
Best wishes
Alan Lloyd

Seem to remember there being some interesting snippets of information
regarding
the town clock in my cherished copy of Oliver Jones's "Early Days of
Sirhowy & Tredegar"; will have to have a look. Duw, if I only had a quid for
every time I've stood by the clock eating chips!!! In olden times, of course, it
would have been scallops from Cavanna's!

===================
Dear Listers,
I photographed the clock only five years ago (in March 2003) for a client in
Florida. The clock was then keeping good time and the supporting column and
base looked in pristine condition.
A plaque near base of the clock stated:
-----------
Presented to the town of Tredegar from the proceeds of a bazaar promoted by
the late Mrs R P Davis.
Erected 1858
-----------
I have temporarily uploaded my photo of the clock onto my website, where it
can be accessed by going directly to:

Kind regards,
John
