Hi Marion
I don't know much about Sow Hill that is why I thought I needed help. I have
the census for my Gt.Gt.gramp Thomas Lewis and Amelia, and I am try to work
out where their house was , and if it still stands. His Son Thomas was born
later that year in Blaen-y-Cwm, down the valley. Someone found an Ebenezer
too, but was this my Ebenezer living with an uncle John, and cousin Lewis.
If that page had been clearer, I might know. The page was unclear,
especially his relationship to the Head of the house, and his birth place.
I'm guessing it was right.

Please contact me personally. I want to know all you know about Sow Hill.
My ggg-grandmother ran a, China & glass shop on Sow Hill. I know the shop
was open during 1843-1845 at least. This is from Census 1841 and personal
letters 1843 & 1845. Between Ann Jones and her son Isaac.

Is there anyone who knows Pontypool, Sow Hill, and the Tranch, who
knows
what the names of the first few houses on Crumlin road are called. There
are
three old cottages next to the first house which particularly
interest me.

I think the reference is to Sow Hill, Pontypool, not Stow Hill, Newport.
Looking at my 1842/44 Pigot's Directory of Monmouthshire (CDs produced by
Archive CD Books to assist fellow researchers

I see that there is an Ann JONES, China, Glass, etc. Dealer in Sow
Hill.

Dear Chick
It may be worth you doing a little investigating before investing in the
1861 census for Newport because parts of it are missing. My family was in
the Stow Hill area prior to 1861, and unfortunately they are on the
missing
section in 1861. Mike JOHN helped me to clarify this situation, as
he was
the one who told me that the census had not survived in its entirity - I
had
been looking all over the place.
However, you may be more fortunate - happy hunting.
