Hello Les,
Blaenau Gwent cemetery was cleared by Blaenau Gwent Council in 1979.
Before it was cleared they made a list of the grave records, position,
name of person buried, date of death, age.
I found no George or Handel Lewis there unfortunately. There were a
large number of Lewis family mentioned in the index. This doesn't mean
that George was not buried there. The headstone may have been
unreadable. There was a George Jarrett Lewis buried but age did not tie
up.
I found these references in Chapel MI's, etc. Unsure if they figure, but
just in case:-
Hermon Baptist, Nantyglo:-
D120 Black kerb
In Loving Memory of GEORGE LEWIS, died September 17th 1925 aged 69.
Side 2. Also ELIZABETH beloved wife of GEORGE LEWIS, died January 2nd
1943 Aged 75.
Also Christchurch, Aberbeeg:-
C103 Angel on Cross
In Loving Memory of GEORGE LEWIS, (Cooper), who died April 30th 1915
aged 74 years. Also of ANN his beloved wife, who died September 7th 1915
aged 72 years.
You could always contact Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council at the
Civic centre, Ebbw Vale, Gwent (via the Financial Director). They will
have details of burials at the Municipal Cemeteries for that area. You
have definite dates so it should not be a great problem.
Best wishes
Brenda, Gwent
