Hello Mark,
Problem with 1861 at Tredegar in 1861 there was so much missing on the
census (same as lots of other areas as well), could not find on that
index.
Found a John Breeze on 1851 but of course it is pretty hit or miss!
H0107-2448-254-5, 7, Jackson Row
Anne Breeze, head, widow, 67, housekeeper, Radnorshire, (deaf)
John Breeze, S, son, 26, iron miner, Montgommeryshire
Wm Breeze, S, son, 20, ,, ,, Llanithel, RAD
Sam. Breeze, g/son, 3, Tredegar, MON
David Breeze, son, 18, iron miner, Llanithel, RAD
John would be exactly the same age as Elizabeth!
You could look for a marriage of John and Elizabeth 1851-1865 of course.
John Breeze would have been about 47 when he died.
Suspect Jackson Row would be near where St Georges Church area of
Tredegar by the enumeration.
Afraid 1871 will have to be checked. Gwent FHS will be bringing out the
publication in the near future
Best wishes,
Barrie Jones

Hello Barrie
Thanks for that - I knew some of it - but the absence of any appearence in
Merthyr in 1871 is a bonus.
My problem is the pre-1881 history - I have a reasonable picture after then
with Jonathan moving to Celynen, Mons. - except I do not know when Elizabeth
died.
Because John Breeze is dead by 1881 I don't know his age or where he was
born. Because his son, Jonathan, was born in 1865 in Tredegar, I'm hoping
that the family were in Tredegar in 1861 and/or 1871 and I can (eventually)
track them down on the census. Hopefully this might show other siblings for
Jonathan which will give some clue as to when John and Elizabeth married.
There is a family story that says John died when Jonathan was 7 - around
1872.
I guess that there must have been Tin Plate works in or near Tredegar in the
1860's/1870's for John to have been a Tin Plate Roller(?). Perhaps another
at Dowlais to explain the move there?
