Hello Sue,
Yes, you are on the right list. Monmouthshire and Monmouthshire Gwent on
Rootsweb are also OK to post to. Rootsweb in their infinite wisdom
(not!) have decided to split the Monmouthshire area into lists which
confuse so many and hence result in low list subscriptions. This is my
view.
I believe Angela Probert on the Powys list is researching Maddy. Think
hers are from Herefordshire and settled in Radnorshire.
The 1841 census is being transcribed by Gwent FHS, the Newport Branch is
currently carrying this out. See Gwent FHS site (signature below).
Details are not available on the site at present, unfortunately.
Of course due to the 1841 not being indexed it is a difficult task to
search. Have you tried at your local Latter Day Saints FRC?
The film number for Aberystruth is:- FHL BRITISH Film 438842
It would be a good idea for you to enter in your email subject heading
more information than 'Maddy'. The reason for this is that all Rootsweb
Place mailing lists are archived. This means that other researchers of
the Maddy name will be able to pick up on a search engine the various
titles.
The example that I have put in the subject box is 'RE-Edward Maddy,
Aberystruth, Monmouthshire, 1841' is a better advertisement and many
years after this thread has appeared your entry will be there to aid you
and other Maddy researchers:)) Lots of people are guilty of this, just
look at the archives for Blaenau Gwent Rootsweb list alone.
all the best
Barrie Jones, Gwent
Thank you very much Barrie.
I am so glad that I am on the right list. I hope there may be some
feedback from this as I have been trying to find the elusive Edward Maddy
and his family for some time for some Maddy (possible cousins) in America.
They cannot get the info as easily as we can and I am therefore trying to
help them in the hope that maybe they are related to my Maddys who come from
Breconshire, Herefordshire, Glamorgan and Radnorshire.
Best wishes,
Sue in Suffolk (nee Maddy)
