Hi Elsie,
The Meredith's in my family are largely from the Leintwardine area of Herefordshire
- I have several generations that are born in that town - although there are connections
to Shropshire via marriage. The year 1871 was the earliest that I have a Meredith born in
Tredegar.
I guess lots of families came to the Tredegar, Sirhowy and Merthyr Tydfil areas, because
that was where the work was, either in the iron works, or later, in the coal mines.
Do any of your Meredith's have links to either Leintwardine or Tredegar?
Regards
Helen

Hi Helen,
I have the surname MEREDITH in my family, beginning in Montgomery and
relocated to the areas around Merthyr Tydfil in the mid to late 1800's.
I wonder if there's any connection.

Subject: [BLAENAUGWENT] Interests in Blaenau Gwent
Date: Wed, 18 Jan 2006 14:45:05 +0000 (GMT)
Hi All,
This is the first time I've contributed, but I've been reading the list
messages for a while and everyone is so knowledgable on this region (I was
born and brought up in Tredegar, but have only got into my Family History
project whilst I'm living 160 miles away!).
My interests in this area are the surnames: PRICE, WILLIAMS, MORGAN,
MEREDITH, HUGHES, especially in the Tredegar, Nantyglo and Abertillery
areas.
In particular, I am searching for details of a Sarah Williams (my
great-grandmother). From her marriage certificate (1899 at Siloam Chapel,
Llanelly, Breconshire) she was born in 1877 and on her marriage was living
in Brynmawr. Her father's name was Lewis Williams and he was a Coal Miner.
From the 1901 census, where she is living in Abertillery ( Underhouses
Princess Street) with husband Joseph Price (also a coal miner) and baby
Clifford, it is unclear where her birthplace was. It could be Nantyglo, or
even Abersychan. Sarah and Joseph went on to have at least 8 more children
(the last one was born in 1916) - Thomas, Phyllis, Clarice, Leslie, Albert,
Lena, Olive and Nancy.
Any suggestions on how to proceed further with Sarah Williams and Lewis
Williams would be gratefully received, as I cannot find out any more details
about them, other than what is written above.
Cheers
Helen
