Hi Keith
Whilst I was visiting the Family Records Centre at Myddelton Street, London
this afternoon I had a quick check through the original index registers for
births from June 1864 - December 1867 but, as with freebmd, there was no
sign of a Welton birth in the Bedwellty district, apart from Charles Welton,
already mentioned by Pam Thornbury.
Is there a chance that the names in the 1871 Census for those living at No.
17 in Upper Llanfrechfa were in part muddled up? Is 'Newport, Monmouthshire'
correct as the place of birth for the children?
What information is given for the home address and name of the parents on
Charles Welton's birth certificate?
The whole family seems to have disappeared by the time of the 1881 census,
except there was a Patrick Rice (aged 34) - Labourer at Coke Ovens - who was
born in Ireland listed at Prospect Terrace, Whickham, Durham : RG 11/5042,
f.66, p.37. His wife is given as Ellen Rice (aged 29) - who was born at
Waterford in Ireland. They also had two sons and two daughters, all born at
Whickham, aged between 8 months - 7 years.
Does Waterford ring a bell?

Subject: [BLAENAUGWENT] Patrick Welton
I have listed in my family a Patrick Welton Born 1866 Tredegar
His parents were Patrick and Ellen Welton
I cannot find any trace of his birth or any record of them ever being
there
They are listed however in 1871 census living in upper Llanfrechfa
I am keen to secure a birth certificate for Patrick
Any help would be appreciated
Keith Welton
