Dear all,
Without going into too much detail, one of our Gwent Family History
Society members had enquired about the marriage of his father, Rowland
West around 1940's a few weeks ago.
We had no luck as Rowland was from Picton Street, Tredegar and family
were non-conformist. His wife was Anglican (Church of England) and her
family were St James, Tredegar, a new Church in 1890's.
Anyway, while setting up our Ebbw Vale branch of Gwent FHS for the
Tredegar Local Studies opening last week, my wife, Brenda happened to be
looking around the exhibition stands and found Gwent County Records
Office stand, set up by head archivist David Rimmer a few days earlier.
Brenda noticed on Gwent CRO that David Rimmer had entered a solitary
marriage certificate for Tredegar which showed Rowland West's marriage
to Elizabeth Jones in 1943 at St George's Church, Tredegar. What are the
chances of David Rimmer entering this particular record???
Janet Karn, Tredegar Local studies and Reference librarian, mentioned
that David Rimmer has a knack for putting on displays which featured
records that people were looking for, much to their delight!
Perhaps David is a medium for all our brick wall research in
Monmouthshire:)))
best regards
Barrie Jones, Gwent
