Dear Linda,
Seems like you have the publications of Edwin Jones and Trevor Rowson
which would give you details and photos of Brynmawr in general.
The History of Breconshire (of which Brynmawr is part) by Theophilus
Jones gives a little insight to the Town of Brynmawr as you may already
know.
National library of Wales at Aberystwyth (not to be confused with
Aberystruth) hold electoral rolls for the town. 1890's may only show
freeholders, owners of land at that time. You may be lucky. Trade
directories are helpful if they have a business or profession. I found
information of my Cheese family at Brynmawr and unsuccessful in finding
details of my great uncle, William Montegue Evans (plug, plug) who lived
at 65, Bailey street with his grandpa, Lewis Cheese.
NLW do hold Worcester Street Calvanistic Methodist (Presbyterian is
same place) Pr's but only recent ones, marriages 1967-70 and 1973-1974
which are of course no help to you.
As chapels disappear so do the records. They are either destroyed, sent
to depositories, Methodist, Baptist and often fall into the right hands
and end up at Records Offices such as Powys, etc.
We are sometimes lucky, as a family history society, to rescue some
Pr's. Example is Rheobeth at Brynmawr which we copied at Tredegar
library and is now deposited at Gwent County Records Office.
Geoff Thomas and Judith Sylte (of this list) got hold of Calvary and
Andrew Vollans found Bethlehem Baptist deeds at Swansea! Sometimes
people come up with histories or contribution lists, etc. of Church and
Chapels which they find in their attic. I always make copies for our
members and then send them to GCRO (via BG libraries, of course;))
Richard Roynon has lots of information of Methodist registers. I think
he is subscribed to this list? If not, I have a contact for him.
Best regards
Barrie Jones, Gwent
