Peter-
Thank you very much. I very much look forward to any information that you
come up with. That is quite odd about your relatives. Was there religious
unrest at the time? If so I would not expect Tredegar to be the safe haven
based on what I have read on that issue.
Thanks again
Cheers
John

John,
I am in the process of updating a list of Catholic Church Records for
Monmouthshire and where to find them. I spoke to Gwent Records Office today
and they are sending me the list of what they have, which has apparently
changed in the past year. As soon as I get the GRO's response I will post
something.
Incidentally, two of my relatives married in Immaculate Conception Dukestown
in 1867. I can't understand why, because they both lived in Brynmawr and
there was a Catholic Church there at that time!
Regards,
Peter Williams

Kay
Thank you for your response. Would this Catholic Church have records? If
so, where would I look for them?
As I know you are aware the Irish records are beyond the category of "A
Challenge". For that reason I am hoping I could find a trace or a useful
footprint from the Church records that would not necessarily be found in
the
GRO information. Anything that could raise my probabilities is welcome
before I take on the tall task of the Irish records.
Thank you so much for the help.
Regards
John

Hello John-
You would have to get back to the Irish records to find any information
on
Maiden name of Johanna Hayes-Death certificates in UK don't give maiden
names and only in the last 30 or so years have dates of birth been
included
in death certs. There is a chance if you have Census records of the Hayes
family in Tredegar-there may be a mother-in-law present with the Hayes
tribe-but that would be a real bonus.I have had a few mothers- in-law
with
some of my families but not always the right side of the family. Good luck
with the Irish end

Hello all-
Good day to all. I need a bit more help. I have been told that the
Immaculate Conception is/was the Roman Catholic Church in Tredegar
1870-1875
when my HAYES & PRITCHARD families resided there. I have collected the GRO
BMD certificates that I need. However, I would be very interested in
checking the Church records in the hope that I could pull a bit more
information from them. For example, if I could find the maiden name for
Johanna Hayes born in Ireland, married in Ireland and all her children who
were with her & husband Joseph in Tredegar were born in Cork, Ireland.
Johanna died in December 1872 in Tredegar and I have the GRO certificate
but
without a maiden name mentioned. If I had this maiden name I believe it
would greatly improve my chances of discovering the family's origin.
Can anyone tell me where I could write to get this information?
Thank you.
Regards
