Dear Lorna
Although your ancestor lived in Rhymney, there is no guarantee that he
worked in a colliery there. My grandfather was a miner and lived in
Tredegar next door, but he did not work in any of the pits there. He
walked down the valley to, I think, Pochin. Our ancestors were great
ones for legging it distances which we would not even consider in order
to get to work. My grandfather walked all the way from Longtown in
Herefordshire to find work in the Valleys in about 1890.
Best wishes
Alan

Hi Lorna,
Try this link:
http://www.welshcoalmines.co.uk/Photo.htm
Each colliery has a photo and some info about it, such as its location
and
when it opened/closed etc.
I hope you (and others) find it of use and interest,
Best wishes,
Jon
