I, too know owners of both names. They get shortened to MIV and BLOD.
Shame really.

Dear Don
The correct spelling of Myfanwy (pronounced Muvanwee) is as given, but
you occasionally get Myfanawy and the abbreviations Myfi, Myfina (in all
cases pronoun the 'f' as a 'v'). For the other name the website
Welshpedia offers: 'Blodwen (BLOD-wen) from blodyn flower + gwen
shining, holy. Blodwen is a classic girl's name.' Blodwyn, Blodwin are
given as variants. The strictly correct spelling is Blodwen ('White
flower'), 'wen' being the feminine form of the adjective 'gwyn', the
'g'
being lost through mutation which is a standard feature of Welsh
phonetics. However, the other spellings are firmly established.
Both names would be very rare these days amongst younger people in
Wales, but I have known people who have borne them.
Best wishes
Alan Lloyd
