Hi Don, the Welsh language is indeed a strange one - with the letter 'f'
being pronounced as 'v', double 'f' (ff), being pronounced 'f',
the letter
'u' being pronounced 'ee', I can go on.
I would assume that the variations would rely heavily on the person who took
the details. They would like to let the people know that they weren't
illiterate or unable to spell when writing these names.
Get young children to write the names down when you say them, that way you
may have an understanding of how and why they were written in those varied
ways.
