Hi,
I am writing to ask if the 1881 Census for the Tredegar Bedwellty area has a
lot missing as I cannot find my gt uncle Evan Maddy and his family. He
died in 1888 aged 55.
Son Thomas would have been approximately 18 in the census but I also cannot
find any mention anywhere of wife Sarah Maddy who was 35 in the 1871 census.
Does anyone have any information in regard to these.
With best wishes

Hello sue - It doesn't look as though there were any missing pages for the 1881 census
- I have found the Maddy family in 1871 in Park Row Cottage, Bedwelty but for the moment
not in 1881, will have another search
best wishes gwen

Hi Sue
There's a possibility that your Evan Maddy is living in Back Union St Bedwelty and is
a widower. The better transcription is with Ancestry, where he is a lodger. The bottom
of the page is torn but you can just about see ?van Maddy aged 44 born Brecknockshire. No
sign of others though - hope this helps
Gwen

Hi Gwen,
Thank you very much for that. I had thought he was probably a widower in
that I could not find Sarah anywhere. I have a newspaper cutting about
him in 1885 and had realised that he was lodging somewhere which suggested
that he was a widower.
I am very grateful for your help. Can't understand why the 1881 census is
different on different sites.
Best wishes and thanks again.
Sue
