Nice to see some traffic on the list.
I am researching POWELL: My great great grandmother Rebecca Powell was born Ebbw Vale,
Monmouthshire Wales. She died in Kernville Pennsylvania. I find her in Ebbw Vale in
the 1851 census with parents William & Margaret Howells Powell. Her father, William is
listed as born Llanelly Breconshire Wales about 1808 & her mother, Margaret Howell is
listed as born Monmouthshire Wales about 1811.
I have been able to find some info on siblings & their descendants but I'm not
sure if I will ever be able to get any further back in Wales.Any thoughts on the chances
of finding information on Rebecca's parents in Wales? Also am always interested in
finding cousins from this Powell line. One of Rebecca's sisters, Rachel stayed in
Wales & married a NEEDES. The other sister Mary married a WHITNEY & emigrated to
Pennsylvania USA.Linda MyersPhoenix AZ
Hi Linda,
I don't know whether this will help you but as you say you had ancester by
the name of William Powell I am wondering if it has any connection with my
family.
My 4 x gt grandfather Evan Maddy and wife Ann Price had a daughter Ann Maddy
who married William Powell at Llanigon, Brecs on 28 June 1794. I have no
record of any children being born to them as I did not follow the Powell
line as the Maddy family is my paternal line. Even further back in the
family I believe an Elizabeth Maddy born 1727 married a Francis Powell at
Llanigon and had sons James 1760 and John 1762 both born Glasbury just a
couple of miles down the road from Llanigon.
By the way most of my family either went to Monmouthshire or Glamorganshire
during the 1850-60s.
I don't know whether this helps.
Best wishes
