Hello Listers
I wonder if anyone has access to the 1951 census, and would be kind enough
to look up the Davies family in Tredegar, Bedwelty for me. The information
I have from the 1861 census index is:
Ref: 3999 56 22 Uchlawrcoed (Tredegar)
Tuck Simon 24
Lydia 18
and at the same reference (not necessarily at the same address but on the
same census page)
Davies, William 47
Lydia was William Davies' daughter and married to Simon Tuck. A later
address for them was 14 High Street, Tredegar.
Any help much appreciated.

Hello, Adina,
I live in Pittsburgh where we have a great genealogy resource in the
Pennsylvania Room at the Carnegie Library. I'll have a look and see if I can find
them on census as a start. Glad to lend a hand, after the wonderful help I've
received on this list. Solved a mystery that I never expected would be cleared.
Peace,
Bonnie
Yes, it is, thanks! That's my GGF there, at 10 months of age! And a railway
contractor is most likely the reason they moved from Devon to Wales. Great
stuff. Is Chapel Street still occupied?
Elizabeth Jones was the second wife, so she should be lurking in that area in
1851, which could lead to her siblings.
And, in a very odd turn, I do find my GGF John with his father Edward here in
Pennsylvania on the 1870 US census, without Elizabeth. I had thought she was
dead, but she is on the PA census in 1900, after John's wife died. A great
article in our local paper when she died. So I'm guessing she is still in Wales
for 1871.
I would appreciate a lookup for 51 &/or 71 if those are readily available to
you. And what might I do in return, from Pennsylvania, for any member?
Helping each other can obviously break down long standing walls!!
Thanks ever so much,
Bonnie
Hi
Don't know if you might have access to any information regarding my
husband's GGF, John R. Griffiths who imigrated from Myrther Tydvil South
Wales to Pennsylvania (Scranton I believe) sometime between 1865 to 1880
when they relocated to Iowa. He was born in 1829 His wife was
Elizabeth and they had a son Thomas R. (my husband's grandfather) and a
daughter Mary Jane. They also had a son, William John who was born in
Scranton in 1869. We can't seem to get any farther back then this
generation.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Adina
Also my GGrandparents lived in Nantyglo Garn Vach around the 1870s/80s
James and Sara Turner
Thanks for the reminder about using the archives, though it was depressing to
find my 3GGM Elizabeth Jones Boyle listed since 1998---and still haven't
found her!
How big could Brynmawr and Nantyglo have been in 1861? Or 1851 when she was
still unmarried? She must have been hiding under the coal dust? IAnd her
mother Mary Lloyd had to marry a JOHN Jones? No wonder I have put her on the
back burner:>
Good luck to all you searchers in that beautiful spot in Wales,
Bonnie Boyle Harvey
Hi Elsie
Thanks for the information. I have the Morgan Family Bible and it has the
birth of John but it does not mention his middle name or anything of the
Thomas family except that the Bible was a gift to Isaac Morgan from his
mother-in-law Margaret Thomas.
I had checked the I G I for John's brother Isaac but not for John himself.
Rosser and Margaret Thomas had another daughter Mary who was baptised in
December 1812 and died in January 1813 aged 3 months. Her middle name was
Rosser.
Again, many thanks
Graham

Hello again Iris,
I found most of the information on the LDS family search site at the
following:
http://www.familysearch.org/ENG/Search/frameset_search.asp
The baptisms of the two sisters I found on:
http://freepages.geneology.rootsweb.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers.htm#Page
On the IGI Bath Numbers you first scroll down and pick Wales, then pick what
County you want, then on the next page, pick the parish. It's
self-explanatory.

Hi Elsie
Could I please ask where you managed to find this sort of info as I have
been looking for similar births around 1815/1817 in the Talachddu area of
Brecon (namely my gggrandfather Watkins). I know his birth was 1817 and
have looked in the parish records at Llandrindod Wells but could not find
him, so cannot find out who his parents were or if he had any brothers or
sisters. Am I missing some vital point? I have done quite well with all
the names between 1837 - 1950 ish but am stuck on the ones before the 1837
records began, and also on finding children of a couple married after the
1901 census. Any tips or pointers would be very much appreciated as it is
driving me mad now. Hope you don't mind me asking but I am hooked on this
now!!
Best regards
Iris

Hi List, I have a marriage cert from December 25, 1845 of a William SMITH of Hyscuborycoed and Sarah DAVIES of Penrheol in the Parish Church of Panteague. He was a widdower and she a spinster, both full age. Can anyone shed some light on this couple, would love to hear from anyone attached to either family. I know this could be quite hard as both names are quite rare !<g>

I'm kind of new to the list and just wanted to list the families that I'm
working on, just in case someone else has an interest in them as well.
William S. Davies was born Feb 18, 1815 and died Sep 24, 1910, probably in
the Garnfach area, South of Nantyglo. He married Elizabeth Lewis before
1851 in Wales. She was born Mar 23, 1823 and died Sep 29, 1890. Their
birth and death records were recorded in the family Bible but it did not
list a place of death. Their son David S. was born in Garnfach Mar 7, 1851
and emigrated to the US in 1869.
I hope in the months to come to learn a lot more about this family. If
anyone has add'l info on these folks, I'd be pleased to hear from them.

Hello Geoff
If you care to browse the Archives of the List at
http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/intl/WLS/BlaenauGwent.html you will find
that there have only been 11 postings in Jan 2004, of which yours was the
11th.
Looking at 2003 there were only 877 in the year and I notice that posings to
the List have been declining, i.e.
Q1 - 298
Q2 - 281
Q3 - 185
Q4 - 113.
The List only covers the areas of Nantyglo, Blaina, Brynmawr, Tredegar,
Abertillery, and LLanhilleth and the Monmouthshire List adequately covers
these. The comparative figures on the Mon-L are:
Jan 2004 - 91
2003:
Q1 - 823
Q2 - 916
Q3 - 661
Q4 - 111
(a similar decline towards the end of the year).
But look at the figures for the MonmouthshireGwent-List:
Jan 2004 - 3
2003:
Q1 - 27
Q2 - 19
Q3 - 11
Q4 - 19.
There is also a Midmarch List which covers the counties of Breconshire,
Herefordshire, Monmouthsh, Shropshire, Staffordshire and Worcestershire.
I subscribe to them all in case I miss something that might be pertinent to
my research but also to make the odd contribution when I feel I can offer
some help.

Could anyone tgell me if there is a burial ground attached to the above church at (Clydach) Llanelly If not where would the persons who went to that church be buried around around 1864 and 1895
Linda
Could anyone help me find the marriage of these, my great great
grandparents? They were both born in Radnorshire but settled and raised
their family in Monmouthshire in the Tredegar area. He was a carpenter and
she the daughter of a shoemaker called John Jones(!).
I have tried Radnorshire but they don't seem evident and think I have found
James in Rhymney in 1871 with the help of this list.
If anyone could find John Jones in the 1871 index with his daughter Ann (or
Maryann), it would help me narrow the options of where to look. The names
are not exactly unusual... :-)
Annette Reynolds
I'm new to the list and am hoping I'm on the right list for relatives who
were born in Abertillery Gwent South Wales.
Thomas GAUT born 1908 and Dorothy WINNEY born 1917 married in 1935.
Their first child was born in 1936 and the 10th child born in 1950.
Difficulties arose with a large family and the 10 children were taken into
care by local social services - not uncommon I'm told. At least one child
(the youngest) was adopted out at age 3.
In 1952 (after the first 10 were taken into care) Dorothy had triplets, two
girls and one boy.
Dorothy and Thomas have since died, but some of the 13 children are alive,
hence I cannot divulge their names. All 13 children could be known by
adopted surnames.
I would like to know if there is any place that I can search for:
Death records of Thomas and Dorothy GAUT
The father of Thomas GAUT was Walter GAUT, Walter was born in Blaenavon
Monmouthshire about 1866. He married twice, first to Charlotte WILLIAMS in
1892, their son Herbert was born in 1893 and Charlotte died in 1893,
possibly from childbirth.
The 1901 census shows Walter age 34 and son Herbert 7 living on their own in
Blaenavon.
Walter remarried to Elizabeth Ann - late PHILLIPS, formerly BAILEY but I
don't know when, but would probably be sometime between 1901 (the census
year) and 1908 (birth year of first child Thomas).
I would like to know if there is any place that I can search for marriage
details of Walter to Elizabeth Ann.
And, where can I search for the birth of all 13 children to Dorothy GAUT.
