Hello Barrie,
It appears as though you were correct! I just
received my grandfathers birth certificate from GRO
(great service by the way, I ordered it online)
THOMAS IVOR CLIFFORD ROGERS was born on the 2nd
january 1899, parents THOMAS ROGERS, mother MARY
DAVIES, occupation Coal Weight, K. Obrien present at
the time of birth The Surgery Rhymney.
So now I have my great grandmothers name, I never knew
it and it seems as though they were not truly boarders
but family as well. I guess that means that I have
also found the names of my great great grandparents as
well, Might there by any on the list who are
interested in the name Davies (I believe that it is a
quite common name?) Cheers Sarah
Was it common at that time to have a baby out of the house?

Apropos of absolutely nothing except that I recognised the address - My cousin Elwyn
Jones and his wife Winnie live at No. 27 Manest Street. I visited them there 3 years ago.
Winnie was born in the house in the 1930s and I believe has lived in it all her life.

This could be Penybont-ar-Ogwr, otherwise known as Bridgend. It's in
Glamorgan though, not Mon. Penybont of course means "the end of the bridge".
There are other Penybonts in Wales however.

Hello Sarah,
Seems your Rogers family were Anglican and Thomas Ivor and Mary baptised
their children at St Davids Rhymney.
Thomas Ivor and Mary had children, Mary Elizabeth baptised 1895 aged 11
years therefore born 1884
David Owen was baptised 1895, born 1886
Mabel, baptised 1885, no age given.
The family were living in 26, Manest Street, Rhymney at the time. Thomas
Ivor was a 'weigher' at the time.
In 1883 when Ceridwen was baptised (no age given) the family were at 9,
Goshen street Rhymney.

Hallo,
I would just like to ask if anyone has the 1871 and 1861 Census for the
areas above. If they have would they please look to see if there is an Evan
Maddy listed who was born in 1835. He was still in Breconshire in 1851 but
after that he disappears. It is possible he died but I am just trying to
make sure that he didn't change counties after 1851.
Thanking you in anticipation.

Hello curly and all listers,
I have been on the glam list researching my
grandfathers family, but recently it seems as though I
should be on either this list or Monmouth. I am
researching my ever elusive grandfather and his
family, THOMAS IVOR CLIFFORD ROGERS. I am waiting on
a birth certificate from gro but I believe that he was
born in Rhymney? in 1899. His father was also Thomas
Ivor Rogers and he should have been born in 1861
according to his age on his death certificate in 1916.
THOMAS IVOR CLIFFORD ROGERS had several siblings,
FLORENCE, MARGARET, CERIDWEN, LILLIAN (OR MARY-ANN)
AND POSSIBLY DAVID. A good percentage of the family
ended up running pubs in Maesteg and Fleur de Lis. I
anyone has an info on this family it would smash up my

Hello Tony,
Found this Jolly family as well. Too much of a coincidence!
The one you were looking for I found in Garnfach, Aberystruth and he was
born in 1816.
This William is from the same area ( near Frome), but born 1821,
probably a cousin?
Louisa is a daughter of this William, another clue?

Hello Tony,
They were mis-transcribed in 1881 as Jolly. Louisa is shown as from
Somerset. It may be Staplehay, Stapley, Somerset perhaps? I can't find
the family on 1851 at Blaina or any of the Indexes that are available
for Monmouthshire. Gwent FHS will be bringing out the 1851 publication
of the census. It is currently being checked.
I have emailed you off list with more details about your Jelly/Jelley
family.
Hermon Particular Baptist was in Nantyglo and the MI's have been
transcribed by Gwent FHS. The MI fiche number is 88. I can tell you
there are Jelly names on the fiche.
On the 1851 Religious census it shows Hermon as erected 1820, enlarged
1830, re-built 1850. The attendance was 1,000 people. It measured 50
foot by 48 foot. It had 100 rented pews, each pew holding 5 people!
There was a gallery on three sides. It shows Samuel Morgan from Nantyglo
who I presume was the minister.
Ben Fieldhouse had been working on a publication called " People of Old
Blaina- 1840-1907" for Gwent FHS before his untimely death. Ben is of
course known for his coal mining books " and they worked us to death"
detailing mining deaths in South Wales. Two books were released which
were BIG sellers for Gwent FHS. A third has been released about a month
ago.
Anyway, Len Hough our President of Gwent Family History Society, has
been working hard to add more detail to the book of which Ben had
already done an immense amount on. The upshot is, the book will be
available in the very near future and will be a BIG seller for our
Society I am certain! I spoke to Len Hough at our Gwent Open Day last
year and mentioned that I found the original transcript. The seeds of
the book started from there. There are not more dedicated people in our
Society than Len and Isla Hough who have been with Gwent FHS since the
1980's.
best regards

I am trying to find the birthplace of my GGGGMother Louisa Moore,
She married William Jelly at Blaina, on 12th July 1851 at the Hormon
Chapel.
Is the someone that has the 1851 Census for Blaina that is willing to look for
either Louisa MOORE, whose father's name William,
or possibly
Mrs Louisa Jelly wife of William, Shoemaker, born Frome, Somerset.
On the 1861 census she is enumerated as being born at 'Stacey',
so far, after many years of searching I have not been able to find such
a village or town in the UK, and believe me I've tried.

Hi Listers,
I have located a LABEN FINNEY on the 1901 Census. He was 10 years old at the time, and was born in Blaina. I am interested in the other members of his family - specifically, if there was another male listed that would have been about 7 years old at the time by the name of William or William John. He may have been listed with the last name of Chalmers/Chamberlain/Challener.
Any help on this family would be greatly appreciated.
