Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Permit me to suggest, Jill, that the FHS is probably staffed for the most part -
with volunteer help. And that you, after muddling through a few tough spots,
(what with you being a member),
could make yourself a very well-self-trained assistant to others.
Hello Jill,
Have you tried going to the FamilySearch website, enter the catalog and do a
place search. Several items concerning Tredegar show up. Don't forget,
Tredegar was in the parish of Bedwellty. Also, you can do a batch search
(C020091 St Sennan's Bedwellty) in the IGI. The batch for Saron Independent
using C095631. Not sure if there are others out there.
Good Luck

wallet for trying to be a "nice guy". Once bitten, twice shy you know. Bob

I was wondering if someone would be able to help me. Dose anyone know of the LDS Family History Library there nearest to Tredegar.
I'm just very frustrated with my LDS Library. (I am a member of the church so I say it with love) The people there are doing their best, but not very informed with Wales and have been not much help.
Then the Family History Catalogue were you can order films is so confusing. I am willing to put in the leg work or should I say eye work, and search films but I would at least like to try and get the right films for my area. I have ordered 7 films from them for what I thought were either Parish of Bedwellty records for marriages and births and then census for Tredegar 1851, 1861, 1871 . .... I did get half of 1871 but that was it. I need help getting the right films ordered.
Or someone to tell me EXACTLY how to get the right stuff of the different family history society sites. I am willing to buy those but only if they have the right cities in them. It seems hit and miss and not all the record are done. I don't want to buy it and not have Tredegar there. I am willing to spend money but would like to know what I am buying before I pay for it. The description on the census are not clear. Maybe it is just me and I am not looking clearly. How do I know for sure if the town/city of Tredegar is on what census. I know some of them are not complete. How do I know.
I just want the census and records for the Tredegar area mid 1800's and I was hoping someone in the LDS family history center there would be able to help me. I know my families are there, just a matter of looking.
Sorry to ramble, but I am coming out of the long Alaska winter and I still have a month to go. Things are getting testy here.
Jill
Hello to all on the list
My name is Donald Reid, I live in New Zealand and am attempting to trace
my mother's side of the family. So far, I have found out that her
father, Thomas Trelease, was born in Cardiff in 1886. Thomas's father,
Richard Trelease is listed in the census entries as being born in 1855
in Tredegar. Does anyone have any information on the Trelease family in
the area of Tredegar, by any chance? I have tried using the search
engines via rootsweb, but have not been able to locate Richard - which
may just mean I'm doing something wrong, of course. If anyone has
suggestions as to how best to proceed in finding more information, they
will be gratefully received.
Thanks
Donald
Hoping someone can help with my WILLIAMS and SAUNDERS families. Mary Ann
SAUNDERS was born in June 1849 at Tredegar. Her parents were Ann WILLIAMS
and William SAUNDERS.. Mary Ann SAUNDERS married William CLEE 25 Dec 1871.
at Sirhowy. Witnesses at their wedding were Eliza Ann DENBY and John
SAUNDERS.
I am hoping someone may be able to find Mary Ann and her parents on the 1851
Census.
If you think you have any connection to any of these people or can help I would love to hear from you. Cheers, Marcella from downunder
Does anyone have any connection with the GRIST family
In the 1861 census living in 24 Bridge st were Benjamin and emily who came from the warminster Wilts area. They had two boys William and Edwin, by the 1881 census they had moved to Swansea. I would be very interseted in any information.
Thanks Carol Anthony Ne Grist.

Search and out in Wilson/Henry/Male/Beaufort and you will come up with both

Hello List
A short while ago we seemed to be going through a Jenkins frenzy, which I
thought was great.
Is anyone researching Jenkins' who were living at Railway Terrace
Aberbeeg, around the 1930's to 1940's?
Also, I did ask this some months ago but got no replies. Could anyone
point me to a map which might show Habakuk Row in the Parish of Aberystruth.
It was in existence in 1881?
Thanks
Dave Jenkins (milton Keynes)

Dear Chris
I'm going through some filed info - and thought I would reply to your
message of 2000.
I have interests in the JOHN family, mainly in Cardiff in the C19, with a
side trip to Bristol. David JOHN born about 1795 variously gives his place
of birth as Penarth/Barry/Porthkerry.
My THOMAS connections are early C19 in Newport, where Blanche THOMAS says
she was born about 1818. I think her father and gr father were both Joseph
THOMAS and were from Llanvihangel Llantarnam.
They didn't end up in BlaenauGwent until C20.
All my family came from the Blaina/Nantyglo area and I lived there until
1964 and I don't recognise many of the surnames on your list from our
villages!

Hi Debbie,
What I have is mostly one family that I know of.
Thomas JENKINS married a Mary. We are still not sure of her last name or when exactly they married.
They had atleast one son for sure. David Abbott JENKINS born 10 Feb. 1855 in Tredegar, Bedwellty Parish. Thomas and Marry were married there also.
I know that Thomas' father, and 2 of his brothers, lived to be over 100. (so I have been looking for allot of old JENKINS with no luck.)
I did find a census of 1861 with a Thomas and Mary with Ann 12 and Richard 10 then David 6 and Edward 2. This could be my family. I am just not sure. I have a family bible that says the family lived on High street. But I have not been able to locate the location of the census. Still trying.( I have the Dist. # and information of the census but not able to figure out the place. If anyone knows how to find that out. Let me know and I will post it.) With kids that age, Thomas and Mary would have gotten married around 1849.
David Abbott married Mary Elizabeth Hurlow at the Bedwellty Parish church in 1876. They had a daughter Susannah that died as an infant. They moved to the US after being sot out by a steel co. in 1880.
That is all I have. I have no information of any of his siblings coming to the US. I am sure I have cousins there somewhere I would love to find. Or just any information. Myself, and a couple other cousins here have been searching for years with no luck. Hope this sounds familiar to someone.
Thanks Jill

Elizabeth Jenkins daughter of G. T. Jenkins, died June 11, 1839 aged 15 months.
I have lots more, but have to decipher it as it's mostly in letter forms.
Take Care,
Debbie Allen

: Norma and Kath and list,
:
: I am so glad to see the JENKINS name being thrown around. It seems like a popular name in Wales, but I don't see it much on the list.
:
: I am looking for Thomas JENKINS born in Tredegar around 1830. I don't have much more than that. Other than he had a son David Abbott. Looks like they are from Bedwellty Parish, Tredegar. I know there are more, just a matter of "digging them up". If this looks familar to anyone, I would love to hear from you.
:
: Keep that Jenkins names out there.

Hello Debbie,
I can add a little bit to my information: John Herbert Jenkins married
Gwenllian David (b.1850/5l), dtr. of David and Ann David in 1871. Gwenllian
had a sister, Margaret (b. abt. 1854), who married Morgan Powell Jones, a
Timber Merchant. John died in 1896 and was a Mining Engineer/Colliery
Proprietor (Ocean Coal Co. according to his obituary.) John's mother was my
great-grandfather's sister, Emily Ann Roberts. Isaac, John's father, was a
watchmaker. John's son, Robert David Jenkins, married a girl named Dolly
from Brooklyn sometime before 1911, when their daughter, Emma, was born.
David David was a Colliery Agent/Proprietor and died before 1886, but I
haven't found his death date so far. I only know that Gwenllian's mother,
was a widow by 1886 and her name was shown as "Ann Davies" on the 1891
Census. She was living with John and Gwenllian. Gwenllian died in 1941 at
the age of 91, and son Robert was not in her Will. He may have died before
her, but haven't found him after 1911 when he went through Ellis Island.
The David family had interests in the Powell-Duffryn Steam Coal Co. and were
from Aberdare, Glamorgan (Cwmbach). They were Baptists.
Your names do not ring any bells, but we can keep trying! Norma

> I have a lot of Jenkins in my family. I was wondering if you had anymore
information than what you have given us here. Most of my descendants were
born on Pencoed Farm way back in Wales. They were very prominent people of
the Colliers in the mining industry and Judicial affairs of South Wales. Do
any of the following names ring bells with you or others on this list:
> Joseph Jones Jenkins died in London (last of the Jenkins of Watertown)
> Jonathan Jenkins
> Elizabeth Jenkins daughter of G. T. Jenkins, died June 11, 1839 aged 15
