Hi Mark, an unusual name you have, I must admit that I haven't come across
it very often. I am indexing the burial books at Tamworth and came across
this in Amington Cemetery, any help?

William,
I really don't know. I have to take another look at that part
of the family. We did have a number of Thomas Bevans in the
family. I forwarded your e-mail on to one of the Australian
branch of the family. They are the most familiar with the Bevan
line. I'm better with the Morgan and Vaughan branches that came
to the US. But I will take a look at the tree and see if I have
one of about the right age.

Hello Pam,
The family in Waungoch Row was the family of Richard and
Margaret MORGAN. Margaret's maiden name was Bevan. The Morgan
children, most of whom have not been tracked are:
Mary b. 1837
Thomas b. 1842
Charlotte b. 1845
Leah b. 1847
Maria b. 1850
William b. 1852
Jane b. 1854
Jane & William both came to the US. They are the only ones we
know anything about. All of the above dates are based on ages
given in the census, so if anyone sounds like a possible match
for a family member of your's but the DOB is off a year, it may
still be the right person.
One thing that I do know is that William Morgan brought over two
nephews after 1900, about 1905-7. They were brothers and named
John and William Morgan. This nephew, William had lost a leg
and it is noted on the passenger list on his arrival to Ellis
Island.
I would love to find someone who claims one of the Morgan
children who remained in Wales.
Sincerely,
Nan

Hello Everyone
Since we are on the discussion of Beaufort, I wonder if anyone has come
across the location of the Cambrian Inn. According to the 1861 Census, this inn
would have been located somewhere in the Waun Dew and Waun Horst area.
Another inn found on Beaufort Hill 1841 notes Wm Powell, innkeeper and wife
Phoebe. I would like to know the name and location of this if possible. No other
descriptions were noted.
Any ideas anyone?

Can anyone let me know if there are any electoral rolls for Tredegar in the 1930's available. I am trying to find out where my mother & her parents lived around then. They were living in Abergavenny in 1940 as I have her marriage certificate to my father, Thomas Nelmes (a Tredegar boy)

Hello Nan,
It is interesting that your interests are shared by many of our Ebbw
Vale HQ members and the overseas as well. Your name crops up a lot with
a few of our members at our research evenings;)
We have pretty well captured all the census for Beaufort from 1841 up to
1901 at our meeting place . Beaufort, including Waungoch, is in the
Breconshire part of the 1901 of course!
Brenda has transcribed 1871 and 1891 for those areas for Powys FHS and
now has 1901 in progress as well. It helps our Ebbw Vale researchers and
of course Blaenau Gwent libraries as well, although only Tredegar
library has a family research centre.
We are lucky at Beaufort as we have so many experts that we can call on!
Pam Griffiths on this list is very knowledgeable on Beaufort and other
areas of Ebbw Vale and parts of Aberystruth as well.
Waungoch District still exists. From my knowledge as a linesman in that
area I don't think that a Waungoch Row exists today.
best regards
Barrie

Pam,
Thank you for taking the time to respond. With the help of all
the kind people on the list, I was able to find the area.
Thanks again,

Hello Lister,
I am back after a rather long absences from the list. I now
know that Beaufort was considered to be in BRE in the 1850's,
maybe it still is, but this is the list from which I received so
much help in the past when I was working on family in this area.
So I am hoping that someone can help me again.
I recently received an 1861 census for my family from a newly
found cousin. The address given for the family is 27 Waungoch
Row, Beaufort. I did a map search and was given a map of
Beaufort but it said it could not find the street. Does anyone
know anything about Waungoch Row. The head of house worked at
the ironworks so these may have been ironworker's cottages that
have been pulled down. But where would they have been located?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
TIA,
Nan Ramsey, Maryland USA
