Hello all,
I need some help to find the folio numbers of areas covered in the 1851
census of Tredegar sub registration district. From Familysearch I have
discovered that the Tredegar area & Rock Bedwellty is all covered by
Piece number 2448, this is contained in three films, Book 1, Book 2, &
Rock Bedwellty consecutively. Unfortunately the index names all areas as
Bedwellty, and with pages and pages of John JONES, it's difficult to
even narrow the search down. :-\ Help!
Regards,
Cathy in South Australia
Hi. Is he married or have children in 1851? Sometimes it works if you can
isolate another member of the family and look in the same area for the one
with the common name. Ages are rounded down in that census, so there may be
a variable of 4 years. Except for children under ( I think) 15. Sally

Dear All,
I made the following post a couple of years ago thought I'd try my luck and see if I get any response this time round.
Once again apologies for the length.
Cheers
Mark
Dear All,
this is my first request to the list so please excuse me if
I ramble. I'm seeking imformation on my G.G. Grandfather, John Blackmore.
Please find below the text of two newspaper cuttings one dated November
1938 the other 2 years earlier.
Seventy Years & still going strong at 82
Seventy years in the mines of South Wales
have done little to impair the physique of Mr. John Blackmore Pantypwdyn
Abertillery, who at 82 can still lift half-a-hundredweight in each hand.
He
is one of the best known characters in the town, everyone knows when he
is about for his voice even in ordinary conversation can still be heard
from one end of the street to the other.
He commenced work at the ASH TREE
LEVEL, VARTEG at the age of eight and gave up only a few years ago. All
his life he has been a great sportsman and he looks back with pride to
the days when he trained Paulton Rovers & Tredegar Rugby Clubs. He was
associated with the Tredegar Rugby Club during the three years when they
one the Monmouthshire League Medals.
Considering his age he is undoubtedly one of the smartest men in the district.
Seventy years underground.
Seventy years work at the coal face
is the record claimed by Mr. John Blackmore. Can anyone beat it?
Mr Blackmore
was born at Abersychan and started work in the old Ash Tree level between
Blaenavon & Varteg at the age of eight. He is now almost 80 and gave up
only recently. He has worked in the mines at Cwmtillery Tredegar & Somerset.
When
he first started candles were used for light & they were held in position
by lumps of clay. He worked at Cwmtillery before the first explosion and
then went to Tredegar. He remembers a man falling down the shaft at Pochin
Colliery and his dog jumping down after him.
Mr Blackmore afterwards worked
at Llanerch and then returned to Tredegar where he became trainer of the
rugby club when they played their first game on the recreation ground.
Leaving Monmouthshire, Mr Blackmore went to work in Somerset and it was
during this period that he became trainer of Paulton Rovers. 27 years ago
he returned to Cwmtillery and gave up work there a couple of years ago.
Mr. Blackmore is still a strong man and in perfect health, and is a familiar figure at Abertillery. Even those who know him are unaware that he is within a few months of jis eightieth birthday.
Any
information dates of events etc gratefuly accepted apologies for the length
of the e-mail
Thanks in advance
Mark.

Sorry about this folks!
I've been trying to email Pam GRIFFITHS for a few days, but the emails keep
bouncing back a few hours later, after having waited too long in the queue.
If you are getting this, Pam, I just wanted to let you know that I am trying
to reply!
This problem isn't affecting emails to any other addresses.

Just wanted to re introduce myself. When summer hits here in Alaska, we all go outside (I wonder why?) So know that fall has hit and my kids are back in school, it is time to get back to my family history and the computer. I am sure I missed lots of fun things and I am very sad. This is a fun group of people and I enjoy reading your emails. Or at least you use to be a fun group of people!
My interest are mostly right now in Bedwellty Parish / Tredegar area. I am still hunting down the JENKINS family in the 1800's. Any JENKINS family in that area is fun to hear about. You never know who might be related.
Thanks for listening and keep up the good work.
Jill in Alaska
