Rumney or Rhymney ( not to be mistaken for the other Rumney!) came under
Monmouthshire, Parish of Rhymney. To complicate further, part/s of
Rhymney were included in Bedwellty in some census's;)
Morgan or Morgans row does not exist in Rhymney today only Morgan Street
and Morgan Terrace.
The first instance of Morgans Row I come across is in 1857 in
relationship with burials in Rhymney Parish Church.
When we complete the transcription for Baptisms, Marriages and burials
for Rhymney Parish then we will be able to build a broader picture of
the street details and the sort of people who lived there, etc.

else found me that page, and so it is out of context. I would like to know

Hi Roni,
Please don't shoot me down in flames but I have to start somewhere!
My grandmother Mary Ann WILLIAMS (father John) married William Henry
WILLIAMSs (father Thomas) at Bethel Chapel Blaina in 1894. He was 20 and
she was 17. They both gave an Abertillery address but she was born in
Blaina although I haven't found the bc yet. All males were miners.
Family lore has it that Mary Ann's mother or grandmother was Sarah
VAUGHAN and when she married, she "married beneath her" and was disowned
by the family. Terribly vague, I know but just in case it fits in with
something you know about the Vaughans in this part of the world...

Nadine,
Mount Pleasant Sq. is behind the new TESCO's opposite the
Civic Centre. Travelling across Mount Pleasant Rd. from town end
you can either turn left for Council St. or right for Valley Rd.
Take the Valley Rd. turning, about 50 yards in front of you take
left turn at the 'T' junction into M.P.Sq.
It's a small quadrangle of two up-two down houses, so small in
fact that they used to convert their stone sheds, in their garden
across the road, into kitchens to cook their meals and convey the
cooked meals back to the house to eat. I had family living in No.
13 in 1881 and they had 7 children living with them. I'm one of
eleven from a three bedroom semi and I thought things were tight
then!!!!

Hello,
I am looking for info on my Vaughans from Wales. This is what I think I
already know, may it be of use to someone else also.
Thomas Vaughan b.~1818 Neath Abbey, Glamorgan, Wales m. Ann b.1818 Dowlais,
Glamorgan, Wales
At time of 1881 census he lived on Lower Puddlers Row, and had a
Granddaughter living with him named Charlotte, age 8, b.1873 in Blaina,
Monmouth, England who was a Scholar. He was a nightwatchman.
Thomas b. abt. 1816 came from Neath Abbey in Glamorgan. Around 1845 he
settled his family in Blaina, Monmouthshire, Wales.
Thomas and Ann's known children: William, Mary, Elisabeth, Ann, John, David,
Maria
David Vaughan b.1857 Blaina, Monmouthshire, Wales m. 3 Feb 1880 in Nantyglo,
Monmouthshire, Wales to Sarah Ann Powell b.1857-1863? Wales
(1910 census says they came from Wales about 1904. David was a Puddler and
Coal Miner. Sarah had 12 children, 9 of which were still living in 1910. In
1910 she had been married for 28 years. She and both her parents were born
in Wales.)
(David and son Henry came on a separate ship from his wife Sarah Ann and
most of the younger kids. First they came to Ellis Islands Port of New
York, and went from there to St. Charles, Saginaw County, Michigan and
stayed with Sarah Ann¹s brother who paid their passage. His name was Harry
Powell. David paid for the passage of his wife and other kids. the older
male children are found living by themselves with their own family on the
1910 Michigan census¹ but I can¹t find any records for them at Ellis
Island.)
(Dear Roni,
Whilst David Vaughan is not a relation of mine, as far a can ascertain at
this time, I do have some information about him. He was born in Blaina,
Monmouthshire around 1858. He had several brothers and sisters: William
(born abt 1841, Mary 1842, Elisabeth 1844, Ann 1847, John 1850, Maria 1861.
David married Sarah Ann Powell in Nantyglo, Monmouthshire on 3rd February
1880 (Fathers name John Powell) and had a son Thomas John Vaughan who was
born in Abertillery the same year. David's family settled in Blaina around
1845 and had come from Neath Abbey in Glamorgan where Thomas (his father)
was born around 1816.I have quite a bit of information about the family as
coincidentally my Vaughan family also came from Blaina. There were only
three Vaughan Families there. Two of which intermarried. My Vaughan's were
unrelated.
If you let me have the information you have I will try and fill in some
gaps. I am very interested in the Blaina area and have been looking at all
Vaughan families from this part of the world for some years.
Incidentally, there is a town in the USA called Nanticoke, Pennsylvania.
Many families emigrated there from Blaina and Nantyglo around the turn of
the century.
Regards
Nick Vaughan)
David and Sarah Ann's known children: Thomas Jason, Thomas John Henry,
Andrew, Tom Daniel, David, Gilbert, William John, Blodwin, Elizabeth, Robert
Gerald, Harold, Reese David.
William John Vaughan b.1893-96? Wales m. Muriel Stout b. Dec 1897 Michigan.
William was a coal miner.
William and Muriel children were Gilbert Durwood and Melba.
Gilbert Durwood Vaughan b.7 jul 1917 m. Wavelle June Baldwin b.4 Jun 1920
d.2001. Gilbert was a Sheetmetal Journeyman and shop supervisor.
Gilbert and Wavells children: William, Marie Antoinette, David, Gilbert
Durwood Jr., Gail, and Greg.
Gilbert Durwood Vaughan Jr. b.3 Oct 1943 m. 3 Aug 1962, Grand Blanc,
Michigan to Carole Ann Ackerman b. 9 Jan 1946 Flint, Michigan
Gilbert is a Sheetmetal Journeyman.
Gilbert and Carole Ann's children: Bart Douglas and Veronica Beatrice.
This is me. Veronica Beatrice Vaughan - Woodward
I am looking for James ( or William James) Baker, born about 1854 in Clevedon, Somerset, with his family - wife, Jane, born about 1854, John, 1875, Sidney, 1880.
I think they should be in Waunlwyd by 1891.
Is there some kind soul with the 1891 census who could find them for me?
Many thanks,
Pam
Dear All,
This is a (re)-posting of my interest in the area. Not so much a name (WILLIAMS) as an
address.
The timespan is 1868-1872 *only*.
The 'phantom address' is Springfield House, Blaina, MON.
The problem is that two, independent researchers have been unable to find this address in
the 1871 census which is strange as children were born at this address in Jul 1870 & Nov
1871! Moreover, the family which was living there hasn't been found. It should appear, in
1871, as:
Jacob WILLIAMS; Head; Marr; 34; Accountant; born FLN
Jane H. " ; Wife; Marr; 28; ----------; born FLN
Emily S. " ; Daug; Unm ; 5; ?Scholar ; born LAN, Manchester
Charles H. " ; Son ; --- ; 1y; ----------; born LAN, Manchester
Augusta F. " ; Daug; --- ; 8m; ----------; born MON, Blaina
If anyone sights Springfield House, or the Jacob WILLIAMS family, *please* let me know.
Thanks,
Trevor (York,UK)
want to publically record my thanks to Mike John who has helped so many of us with our family research! by doing look ups. thanks for all the hard work Mike.
Paul, Idaho, USA
Hello,
Can anyone help please?
I want to find any published report of an inquest held in June 1895,
possibly in Blaina as that is where the accident occurred. Does anyone
know which newspaper is likely to have reported this and the subsequent
funeral? The victim was my great grandfather, so such reports could
yield useful links to other family members. Was there a local paper
for the Aberystruth area at that time? Any advice or suggestions will
be very welcome.
Thank you
Marjorie

Does anyone have access to the Dr Williams Library
which is at the Public Record office, London.
This collection contains the Non Conforming church baptism, etc. before

Hi Jim,
I think that, by law, all historical church registers should have been
deposited with the local record office. By historical I mean registers no
longer in use. This covers Anglican/C of E churches but not necessarily
nonconformist churches/chapels, some of which still hold very old registers
that the county archivist may not be aware of. As you say parish records I
assume you just mean the old parish church registers. Nantyglo and Blaina
were both in the ancient parish of Aberystruth for which the older original
registers are in the NLW in Aberystwyth but which are held on microfilm in
Cwmbran. The post-1837 registers are held as originals in Cwmbran. Nantyglo
didn't have a parish church in its own right until the later nineteenth
century but of course, the advent of civil registration in 1837 means that
the GRO indexes should be the first port of call for searching for marriages
as a much smaller proportion of people married in church once chapels and
register offices could be so utilised. I hope this helps.
Best wishes
James
