Hello Nan,
I have a list of almost a 1000 Welsh people (including Monmouthshire)
who went to New Zealand and were born in Wales. It can't be published
yet as details of deaths are recent in some cases and would infringe the
data protection act:)
One example that I can give is:-
Evan Louis Evans born 1861 Cardigan, arrived Lyttelton 1887 "Ionic".
Married 1891 Miss Skilling. In a lot of instances the brides maiden name
is given and parents as well.
If you have a specific name I can check for you.

Hello Nan,
The person I am researching is Thomas Owens. He is my
G.Grandfather from Beaufort. In the 1870's (I believe) he was asked
to take a young family of two brothers and a sister, namely
George, Nathan and Mary Owen or Davies to Arkansas? from
Beaufort/Brynmawr?
A descendant of the family has some old photographs which
were sent to the UK . Two of the photo's, 1 with two little
girls and the other with three little girls were taken by SAYERS
photographers, ROCK SPRINGS,WYOMING. It is believed a descendant of
the settlers became a sheriff at ROCK SPRINGS, WYOMING.
Another photo is of a white gravestone which says:-
Sacred to the memory of Margaret, wife of William Davies, Beaufort
dated April 7 1876, also George b.1893-96, loving son of James
Gates. I am told the sister that left Beaufort/Brynmawr (Mary)
married a Mr. Gates and won many competitions singing at the Salt
Lake Academy.
Well Nan, I hope there's something in there for you !!!!!!!

I am searching for information/connection on my ancestors who immigrated from
Ireland, some migrated to Wales (Rhymney and Tredegar areas) and then to the
Luzerne/Lackawanna Counties areas of North East PA. Many settled in the Old
Forge, Minooka, Taylor areas of Scranton. PA. My GERRITY/GERAGHTY lines
appear to have moved back and forth to Wisconsin, Carbondale and Scranton. My
SULLIVAN line settled in the Taylor and Scranton area however many of the
children were females and I am having troubles locating the SULLIVAN ladies
as they married and moved away. SULLIVAN line were primarily miners while the
GERRITY line were primarily railroaders. Patrick SULLIVAN married Ellen
CUMMINGS 1863 in Bedwelty, Wales. The earliest members of the CUMMINGS branch
were of Irish descent but born in Wales. Herewith are some of the surnames I

Could anyone tell me the criteria for emigrating to the USA from

would they have got their tickets from? How would I find this

Hi!
I am trying to find information on a Williams family from Nantyglo and
Blaina and have no idea where to start. Would someone please be willing
to give me some clues. The family were miners, I believe the father was
named Thomas Spencer Williams who married a Margaret Hughes. Their
children included Abednego born 1827, Meshach born 1828, Margaret born
1830, Shadrach born 1832, Mary born 1836?, David born 1836?, Robert b
1838, Spencer born 1840 and Rodger born 1841 They all carried the
middle name of Spencer. My info is from family stories handed down not
from any actual hard data. I did find a record that Meshach was born in
Kidwelli, Carmarthenshire, Wales. I also think some of the children could
have been born in Holywell, Flintshire, Wales.
My great grandmother was Margaret Jane Williams (Maggie) born between
1870 and 1873 in Wales and married a Robert Jones in Tennessee, US. I am
trying to figure out who her parents were, where she was born and how her
family decided to come to America. I know that she is neice to Abednego,
Mesach and Mary Williams listed above because of census records found in
the US. Meshack had a daughter named Margaret Jane Williams, but this
Margaret was about 10 years older then mine and died as a child in
Nevada, United States.
I do know that Meshach, Abednego and Mary Williams were in Nantyglo and
Blaina at least between the years 1850-1855. I think that Mary might have
married there to a man named Shadrach Jones. Also I think that Abednego
Williams married there to a Jane Edwards and had some children there.
Abednegos children who I think were born in Blaina were named: Shadrach,
Abednego, Brigham, Meshach, Rhoda, Mary Ann, Sarah Jane, Spencer,
Angeline and Dagmar. I know this because they were members of the Mormon
church there. I do not think any of the other children joined the Mormon
church.
I think that the mother of my Maggie was Mrs. Margaret S Williams born
Sept 1832 in Wales because she is listed as the grandmother of Maggie's
children on the 1900 Willard, Box Elder, Utah Census. The mother Mrs.
Margaret S Williams in 1800 was age 67, widow, and had only one of 8
children living. She immigrated in 1873 from Wales and rented a home is
Willard, Utah. I have no clue who her husband might be and what the
relationship is to make my Maggie neice to Meshack, Abednego and Mary
Williams.
I am soooo confused.
By time my Maggie J Williams was thirteen she had given birth to a
daughter, Eliza Margaret (Annie) Jones in Tennessee.
By time my Maggie J Williams was twenty-one she was the widowed mother of
three her husband died in a mining accident. Eliza (Annie) Jones,
Luther Jones, and an infant. She sent her children to her mother and
lived all alone in Tennessee for several decades. I dont know why.
Thank you for any help or clues you may be willing to share with me.

Hi,
I am wondering if anyone has access to a Directory, either "White's" or
"Pigot's", for Bedwelty, for a lookup in the years 1855 - 1861 for a wine
seller named DAVID OWENS.
This would be truly appreciated.

Hi Don,
Only the 1881 and 1861 are indexed for Monmouthshire, although the 1851 is
in preparation.
The 1861 index fiche are sold by the Gwent FHS by parish and alphabetically
but you will still need to consult the film of the census as it is an index
only. I don't have any "O" fiche so cannot help. The same will apply with the
1851 when it's complete. You will need to have an idea which parish to look
in but you can get this from birth certs of family members.
I'm assuming you have the 1881 references you need but if not send me the
names and ages of the people you need in Mon and I'll look for them.

Irene,
I was fairly sure by now that you would accept the PARRY's as we have
forwarded to you numerous times from the 1881 census as your PERRY's.
PERRY was often written as PARRY. You really should consider them a bit
more - I'm 99% sure they are yours.

Coral,
I am searching for a " Caroline" place of birth " Twyn Blaenant". She
married or had children by William Evans and proceeded to have Benjamin,
James, Stephen,
Isaac, Shadrach, William and Caroline.
The Evans line married into a " Rees" do you think there is a connection
I have drawn a blank on all my research. They are registered on all the
census but I have failed to find any reference to their marriage, or
christenings of their children. We have a strong Baptist background which
might account for the lack of Established church records. If there is any
connection I would love to hear from you!
