Dear Paul
Thanks for clarifying the position, I was surprised when I read the other
Paul's email - I left Blaina in 1964 and am not up to date anymore.

Yvonne,
Two thoughts here. First, did they both have the same
mother? Could the first have died and Dad remarried
to another Elizabeth?
Second, remember that a death certificate has
information provided by some else. This may have been
a child of Lydia or a spouse. That person may have
been wrong as they may not have even known Lydia's
mother. But Richard probably did.
Just a thought,
Nan

Yvonne,
Perhaps you already have the correct name - make that names plural.
If Sarah's mother was Elizabeth MORGANS, perhaps her mother died and
Richard RICHARDS remarried to Elizabeth THOMAS, being Richard Jr.'s
mother. Do you have the birth certificate for Richard Jr. or have you
possibly located for a death certificate for Elizabeth MORGANS prior to
the birth of Richard, Jr.?
Just some possibilities...
Best wishes. I know this is a tough one, but it sounds like you're able
to manage. A good many people might not have even asked the question
;-).
Sincerely,

Hello list. I'd like to thank everybody for their replies to the
message I posted about my great-great grandparents, John and Mary
(EDWARDS) CHARLES. I think I forgot to mention that John was born about
1810, and Mary was born about 1820. I don't know their places of birth
in Wales, but their marriage record for 14 May 1841 says they both were
living at Brynmawr.
Can anybody tell me where to look for lists of people who emigrated to
the US from Wales? I think I have the date of their immigration narrowed
down to about late 1851 to 1854.
Thanks,
Mark Hughes

Hi folks,
Just posting my interests on the lists that I've just joined. I've been
researching my Somerset, Gloucestershire and Hampshire connections so far,
but there is a lot more research to be done in Glamorgan and Monmouthshire.
So here goes:
Abraham Som.
Dyer Mon., Hants.
Goodenough Som.
Halls Herts.
Horler Som.
Lines/Lynes Som.
Naish Som.
Plomer Som.
Porch Som., London
Sawkins Hants
Siswick Herts
Swift Som.
White Som., Glam., Mon., Hants
Williams Som., Mon.
The above are the counties that I know that members of my extended family
lived in at some time or other. Of course they may have lived in others.
Best Wishes

Thanks to those who replied so speedily to my query re Baslic/Bassaleg.
Now I'll get cracking on checking out Bassaleg info pre 1837. Any
further advice is very welcome!
Margaret, Melbourne
Is there anyone on the list that knows Risca and could tell me if the Church House is still there and is there is a written history of the house available.
Many thanks, Gwyn
Thanks very much Pam for your troubles, the outcome is not very satisfactory
but at least solves the puzzle!

hi mark
the boundaries between breconshire and monmouthshire and glamorganshire changed a lot over the years and Brynmawr is right on the border between them all., there were a number of little graveyards between brynmawr and govilon, clydach and gilwern and crickhowell.
today brynmawr is in monmouthshire, and was between the 1960-1980's in gwent. the name of the registry area is Bedwelty. and the council area is Blaenau gwent. confusing eh!

Hello list. My name is Mark Hughes, and I live in Columbus, Ohio, USA.
I am new to this list and pretty new to Welsh genealogy.
I just received a marrige record in the mail I believe to be for my
great-great grandparents, John CHARLES and Mary EDWARDS. They were
married 14 May 1841. According to this record they both lived at
Brynmawr at the time of their marriage. John CHARLES was a collier by
profession, and his father Charles CHARLES was a Miner. Mary's father
was John EDWARDS, who was a shoemaker.
I am pretty certain these are the correct ancestors for me. I already
knew for certain that my great-grandfather, Charles CHARLES', parents
were named John and Mary (EDWARDS) CHARLES, and they were married in
Wales. They came to the US from Wales around 1852-54, and eventually
settling in Pomeroy, Meigs co., Ohio. Both my great-grandfather, Charles
CHARLES, and his father were coal miners, which makes me even more
confident that I have the right marriage record. The date of marriage
also is in the right time frame.
I am hoping that somebody on this list can give me an idea about
where to proceed from here. I am confused about the town of Brynmawr.
The marriage record was from the Crickhowell district records. I saw a
map that showed Brynmawr in Breconshire. I am confused as to where
Blaenau-Gwent comes in. Is Brynmawr in that county now? What parish
would I need to search for records for Brynmawr?
I would be very grateful for any help sombody can give me.
Thanks.
Hi, I have the MI microfiche for St. Peter's and can look at it for
you when I next go to the Library and use their microfiche reader. If
no one else has found it for you by next week let me know.

living there in 1892 at the time of his father's death, a year later! I'll
probably never be able to work it out!
