Hello, Barbara: Thanks for the quick reply. To remind everybody:
George PRICE: born Hereford Bromyard, about 1854;
> Emily Jane PRICE: wife, born Monmouth, Blaina, about 1857.
> Llewlyn PRICE: son, born Hereford Bromyard, about 1878;
> John Henry PRICE: son, born Monmouth, Blaina, 1876.
Could this be them in 1881, Esther? Looks like a few variations on their
birthplaces!!

I would really like to believe that this is my g gf's family, because it
solves where they were in 1881. I can explain away George as a gardener
because he might have taken a break from the mines at this time, perhaps to
help his own parents; I can explain away the absence of Mary Ann because she
was probably married by 1901 (or died young), but I cannot explain away the
fact that only one birthplace (Llewelyn) matches the info on the 1901. On
the other hand, it IS a rather strong coincidence that another George Price
married an Emily Jane and that they named their children, who were born in
the same years, with the same names as my George and Emily Price did.
If this is the same family, how could the birthplaces be so wrongly stated?
Any ideas, listers? Thanks. Esther (Edmonton)
I am still curious as to why one set of great gp's did not show up on these
two Census, especially since I found them on the 1901 in the place I
expected them to be. Could SKS look again, with the new info I learned from
the 1901 Census?
George PRICE: born Hereford Bromyard, about 1854; occupation in 1901-Collery
Engine Man Above; possibly living at 23 Lancaster Street, Blaina, Monmouth
before 1901; civil parish Aberystruth
Emily Jane PRICE: wife, born Monmouth, Blaina, about 1857.
Llewlyn PRICE: son, born Hereford Bromyard, about 1878;
Edith PRICE: daughter, born Monmouth, Blaina, about 1884;(would only be on
1891 Census)
Evelyn PRICE: daughter, born Monmouth, Blaina about 1886; (would only be on
1891 Census)
John Henry PRICE: son, born Monmouth, Blaina, 1876.
It's possible the family was in Hereford Bromyard in 1881 as the first son
was born there in 1878, but obviously moved back to Blaina by 1884 when the
first daughter was born.
Thank you. Esther (Edmonton)
Hi
Looking for information on a John Lloyd and family of Abergavenny. He had a daughter Ann who was born in Abergavenny and moved to Aberdare prior to 1841.
She married William Charles of Trecynon, Aberdare in
1842 and after his death in a colliery accident in 1845 married Evan Lake of Aberaman, Aberdare.
Regards
Graham
I have been over to the Ebbw Vale "Works" Archives museum this morning
and spoke to two of the authors " the works" , John Gaydon JP and
Barrie Caswell, LL.B (Hons).
Respectively they have had 47 and 38 services with Ebbw Vale Works as
Managers in their own areas.
Mel Warrender, JP, FIM, CEng has 43 years service, also as a Works
Technical Manager.
The area which includes the Lever Hall and the Museum are going to be
secure as a going concern so the future looks bright.
Blaenau Gwent Council have still not fully realised the full potential
of our Heritage. The authors and people like Rodger Burchell of our Ebbw
Vale branch of Gwent Family History Society are trying to break down
these barriers. It is a slow process but the Heritage Forum are chipping
away.
The Museum has vast resources. I was interested in the Dowlais Ironworks
(being a Dowlais boy) and they have many documents that interest me.
Only my wife Brenda has Monmouthshire connections, to date;)
The Family interest is with the works employees. The records that they
have are from 1930 onwards, although saying that, I found records much
earlier;) The record ledgers are indexed in name order and the full
service record is available but due to data protection act, will be
restricted for publication.
The "Works" books are going well and when these are exhausted there will
be no more, at least not in the near future. The printers are no more I
have been told and there are about 80 copies left. If and when they do
the book will be probably twice the price they are asking now (12 GB
pounds).
I have secured copies for my wife's cousins from America and Georgia
from the same area. If anyone is interested I have a contact number but
they have no mailing facilities. The local press only have advertised
the availability and it is on a first come first served basis. The Video
cassette is brilliant but is only in the British PAL format. There are
more Videos available than books.
The Archive centre contact is:- +44-(0)1495 334225. Open Tuesday and
Thursday 10pm-12-30pm. Contact in afternoons ( Tuesdays and Fridays),
not sure of times, think 2-4pm.
all the best

Actually, the parish of Aberystruth no longer exists. As populations soared
in the nineteenth century, each locality needed it's own church becuase the
old parish was so large and contained far more people than it had in ancient
times when the boundaries were drawn. So we now have the parishes of Blaina,
Nantyglo and Christchurch/ Ebbw Vale, areas which together once formed the
single parish of Aberystruth. I think the initial question was more about
the church rather than the name/size of the parish which makes no
difference.
Best wishes
James Phillips-Evans
There seems to be some misunderstanding
in the listmail reproduced below.
Aberystruth Church was/is in Blaina.
Bedwellty & Aberystruth are both 'ancient' Parishes.
Both are, as far as I know, still operational -
certainly both were until at least the 1980s.
(My slight uncertainty about the last 20 years is because
I specialise in the Victorian period, not C20th.)

Hi Dot,
These are the records available for the area of Aberystruth (including
the parish church in Blaina - the first entered here). You can order the
filmed records through your local LDS Family History Center.
They charge US $3.75 per film and you view them at their facilities for
30-60 days. I hope you find this helpful.

Thanks for your reply, do you know what the name of the church in Blaina was?
That would help in looking up parish records, etc.

Hi there 'Dot'
Re your enquiry church of Aberystruth. The church was in Bliana. The Parish
of 'Aberystruth ceased in 1860 and was superceeded by the parish of
Bedwellty. Best of luck with your enquiries.
Cheers Ray Hapgood.
