> Hello Iain,
When looking at the census for the Tredegar, Rhymney, Ebbw Vale area, the 1841 &
1851 census are listed under Abergavenny, the 1861, 1871, 1881, are listed under
Bedwellty. When looking for my ancestors in the 1881 census, the only way I can
guess that they are actually in Rhymney is by looking at their birthplaces, which
for my ancestors is Rhymney. It's really confusing. These areas are actually in the
registration district of Bedwellty, sub. district Tredegar, but the Tredegar isn't
mentioned on the census, so the same registration district would be listed in the
GRO indexes of births, deaths, & marriages. I hope that this is of some help.

Dear Friends,
Can anyone point me in the direction of Elizabeth FLOOK, who was a
witness to my great-grandparents' wedding at Siloh Chapel, Tredegar? Their
names were William HUGHES and Sarah BENNETT.
According to the 1861 census for the town, she was a domestic servant
aged 23, at the home of Daniel BENNETT, 23, Bridge Street, Tredegar, his
niece, born in Gloucestershire. It is possible that Daniel was the uncle of
Sarah Bennett, but this isn't certain.
I must add that this is idle curiosity about so unusual a surname!

Hello Listers,
Just reposting my interest in PARRY.
I am a descendant of William and Mary Parry whose son Thomas Parry was born at Tredegar in 1857. In 1861 they were living at 11 How Buildings (not quite sure whether "How" is correct) The family remained in the area unitl the late 1870's.
Is there sks who is prepared to look up the 1871 census. In 1881 they were in Ystradyfodwg. Is there anyone also searching this family.

Dear Friends,
I have recently joined your list and am seeking help in tracing
my great-grandparents, William HUGHES and Sarah BENNETT, who married in
Tredegar in 1864. I have their marriage certificate
I cannot, however, find any record of their births, William's in
(November) 1839 or Sarah's in 1844, nor any mention of either on the censuses
of 1841, 1851, 1861 or 1871. According to the census for Accrington,
Lancashire, it is stated that they were both born in Tredegar. I can imagine
that, if they were actually born in villages near to the town, a Lancashire
enumerator would have no idea how to spell a Welsh name, so he would ask for
the nearest large place. They both died in 1918 and are buried in St. John's
churchyard, Baxenden, Accrington.
According to the certificate, William's father, also William, was a
butcher who was deceased by 1864. There is a butcher shown in Ebbw Vale named
William Hughes in the 1858 Directory for that town. Could this be 'Dad'?
I am open to suggestions of help to put a little flesh on their infant
bones!

If anyone happens to be looking at the 1871 census of Llanwenarth Ultra, in
particular Govilon, I would be very interested to know if there was a DAVIES
family with a 9 month old grand-daughter or maybe niece, Elizabeth VAUGHAN,
resident. Elizabeth's mother, Mary Ann VAUGHAN (née DAVIES) died of Phthisis
(i.e. TB) in Govilon about 3 weeks before the census. Although I have found
Elizabeth's older brother Charles living with an Uncle in Beaufort on census
day, the baby isn't there. I'm speculating that she might be with relatives
in Govilon since that is where her mother died even though the family home
at the time was in Trevil (Trefil), Brecknock.

Can anyone help me? During a recent visit to UK I picked up a bronze disc
in a junk shop. It's about 4 inches diameter and is engraved with an angel
and a lion with the words "He died for freedom and honour" and "John Edgar
Eastwood".
I believe these were presented to the families of soldiers who died on the
battlefield in World War 1.. Any info would be appreciated as I would like
to restore it to his descendants.

Hello Judith,
While I was at Cwmbran Archives yesterday I noticed Caswell families
baptised on Wesleyan Methodist registers ( and marriages). The families
were in the Ebbw Vale area after 1860's I believe.
I know someone from Merthyr Tydfil who was researching them a few months
ago. I will check my census's later.
all the best,
Barrie, Gwent

Hi folks,
I am taking a break from genealogy for a few months and disconnecting
from the Internet in the next three or four hours. I am going to dig an opal
or two, that has to be easier than looking for my Hodges ancestors in
Monmouthshire. If you want to contact me I will be on the wallaby, somewhere
the other side of the black stump. You might find it easier to send an email
via my sister Gwyn whose address is hodgesg(a)better.net.au She will always
welcome info on any HODGES that lived in Monmouthshire and particularly in
the area around Machen, Risca, Aberbeeg and Blaina.
Cheers,
Llew
Dear All
Can anyone look up the CASTLE or CASSELL or CASWELL family in Bedwellty in
any of the above censuses. There should be William born approx 1819 in
Bristol, wife Ann born approx 1822 in Gloucestershire and children, possibly
Abraham born 1848 in Bedwellty. Are there any other children?
Many thanks for your help
