Please, please, please, can anyone advise me on how I might find out where
my ancestor went and when?
Family rumour had it that Esther BENGER bore an illegitimate child, Cecil
BENGER. It was thought that he had been sent or taken to Australia as a
child or that he had gone to Australia off his own bat later.
Records in the IGI, not quite accurate, submitted by a Mormon, led me to
Cecil's birth registration and, yes, his mother was Esther BENGER, living at
the correct address, and no father was named. The BENGER family lived in
Reading St. Giles,WOR, but, contrary to the IGI record, Cecil was actually
born in Marylebone where his mother worked as a housemaid at the time. I
was unable to find the marriage registration in the GRO index, which leads
me to think that either the date or the place was wrong (perhaps he married
in Australia). I haven't yet looked for his wife's birth registration. The
IGI records were:
-birth of Cecil BENGER, 1884, in Redding (sic). No parents names.
-marriage of Cecil BENGER and Maria Louisa WARNER, 1910, in Redding (sic).
-birth of Maria Louisa WARNER, 1889, in Redding (sic). No parents names.
So, what do I do next? Esther BENGER married Alfred John LUDLOW in 1890.
I'd love to find them in the 1891 census to see if Cecil was with them at
the time. Unfortunately, I have no idea where to look for them. I know
they were in Blaina, MON, in 1892. If SKS would be so kind as to look them
up in the 1891 census for Blaina, I'd be delighted.
I just finished writing the above when I had a brainwave and decided to look
for anyone in the IGI with parents Cecil BENGER and Maria, and I came up
with a Dorothy May BENGER, b. 2 May, 1915, Christchurch, Canterbury, New
Zealand. So, it looks as if Cecil and family went to New Zealand, either
direct from England or from Australia.
Does anyone know if there's a New Zealand telephone directory on the web?
Sorry to be so full of questions. I'm getting a little punchy with all of
this stuff!
Hoping to hear from someone.

Robert:
Try ordering the 1841 (mf#0438842)or 1851 census for Aberystruth parish from
the local LDS branch library. Cwmyrdderch is in the Nantyglo/Blaina area.
I have seen it noted on the 1841 census, and you could determine the location
from the enumerators route.
Good luck.

Subject: virus in your attachment
Dear Mr Lewis,
Thankyou for replying to my question about William Baker but my Virus
checker says ALERT when I look at your email so I dare not open the
attachment you sent. Maybe you could check your end. I have the very
latest virus checker because lucky for us we have a friend who makes sure
we have the latest Virus Checkers, he is a computer whizz kid.
I look forward to your reply
