Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Hi there Pat Rossiter,
I've recently subscribed to the Somerset Web which will help you with your
enquiries. Suggest you try www.rootsweb.com/-engsom. Cheers Ray.
My greatgrandparents' marriage certificate says they were married in Old
Blaina Chapel, in 1859. Does anyone know if this is Salem Chapel which is
in High Street Blaina?
They were John COLLINS (born in Corwen, Merioneth in about 1835) and his
wife Margaret (nee HARRIS, born in Risca, Mon in about 1837) They lived
in High Street, Blaina from the 1861 census to the 1881 census, John was
still there in 1891 but Margaret had died in 1887. Does anyone know
anything about them, and/or John's brother Enoch COLLINS, born in Corwen in
about 1837.
Any information about the Collins family and the chapel would be very
welcome.
Thank you
Marjorie Maiden, Cwmcarn
Can someone help direct Pat to the Somerset list? My internet server is
acting up and I cannot access the right Rootsweb list.
Thanks!

Could some kind soul please assist with a look up of Gilks. A Hilda Gilks married a John Styling and had a daughter Ivy, born Somerset but lived in Gwent, Wales as a child, in the early 1900's. Any assistance would be most greatfully received. Thanks in advance...Joanne
Hi,
I thought the following might be useful to all list members.
OK I know I'm wide open to attack by the Virus by sending
this to all members as all unread emails in list members Inboxes infected
with the virus will return to me
with the virus attached but at least I'm prepared for it ;-)
Derek (No longer infected) @Crosskeys
1. How do I become infected by the Badtrans virus ?
2. How do I know if I have the virus ?
3. How can I get rid of it ?
1. How do I become infected by the Badtrans virus ?
You'll receive an email with an attachment 13.3kb in size
(The email has been sent by the Virus and NOT by a list member)
Opening the attachment results in the message
"Install error" which reads, "File data corrupt: probably due to a bad data
transmission or bad disk access."
The worm will arrive with one of the following filenames:
New_Napster_Site.DOC.scr
Pics.ZIP.scr
images.pif
README.TXT.pif
news_doc.scr
searchURL.scr
SETUP.pif
Card.pif
hamster.ZIP.scr
YOU_are_FAT!.TXT.pif
Me_nude.AVI.pif
Sorry_about_yesterday.DOC.pif
s3msong.MP3.pif
Humor.TXT.pif
fun.pif
docs.scr
It will also add, to the original message, the following line:
"Take a look to the attachment"
2. How do I know if I have the virus ?
The Outlook Express Outbox continues to fill with new email messages that
are being created by the virus.
You'll even find numerous emails addressed to yourself. Outlook Express will
prompt you to go online
continually so that the virus can send emails to others. Check your Outbox
folder for messages which
you haven't created yourself especially ones with "Take a look to the
attachment"
3. How can I get rid of it ?
A number of Virus checkers will NOT detect the Virus mainly because the
virus emerged
on the 10th April 2001. Check to see if your Virus Software has the latest
update.
If you haven't got suitable software you can get Free Antivirus Software
from
http://www.grisoft.com
which will remove the Badtrans virus.
Hi Rita S.Smith@btinte, After several'bumbled'versions of the Bristol

Hi,
I was recently Infected by a virus via a member of the Blaenau Gwent list.
The email was sent to me by the Virus and not by the member of the list !
The virus is called W32.Badtrans.13312 and it looks for all unread emails
and sends itself to everyone in it.
The email sent by the virus includes full details of the original email and
inserts a line
> Take a look to the attachment.
It sends emails in the background - you don't even have to start your email
client or click on send and receive!
Release date of virus is approx 10th April 2001 so a number of virus
checkers will not detect it !
It's classed as a low risk virus but is capable of large scale emailing.
Derek @ Crosskeys
nb I'm now clean :-)
I opened an attachment from someone that I knew.
It turned out the person I knew had been infected with a virus which sent it
self to every 'unread' email address in her system.
The virus was sent to me last night, I opened the attachment last night, it
didn't kick in until this morning when I booted up.
The virus is called W32.Badtrans.13312 and it looks for all unread emails
and sends itself to everyone in it. Here is what I got from the Symantec
site (it has only been around since 11 April 01):
o Large scale e-mailing: It replies to all unread messages in the message
folders within the default MAPI email program.
o Compromises security settings: It drops a backdoor Trojan.
Technical description:
When the worm is executed, it drops the backdoor Trojan Hkk32.exe in the
\Windows folder, and then executes it. It then copies itself into the
Windows folder as inetd.exe, adds a run= line to the Win.ini, and displays
the following message:
**** The message didn't download so you can't see it. But, it goes along
the lines of .... unable to open file, could be corrupt etc.****
The next time that the computer is rebooted, the worm will wait for 5
minutes, then it will use MAPI to find all unread email messages and reply
to all of them. The worm will attach itself to the email, using one of the
following file names:
Pics.ZIP.scr
images.pif
README.TXT.pif
New_Napster_Site.DOC.scr
news_doc.scr
hamster.ZIP.scr
YOU_are_FAT!.TXT.pif
searchURL.scr
SETUP.pif
Card.pif
Me_nude.AVI.pif
Sorry_about_yesterday.DOC.pif
s3msong.MP3.pif
docs.scr
Humor.TXT.pif
fun.pif
I apologise if you get this virus, I was caught out and I'm normally on the
lookout for viruses but this email used the same subject line and replied to
me within 15 minutes of me sending an email for a request.

Hello Cathy,
Probably a Liver Bird. e.g. Ann Robinson (weakest link and watchdog
fame) :)) Sorry, couldn't resist that! I would say Canary or Budgie.
Poor little birds.

Hi Beth,
Ruth Ann and I are working on a Pennsylvania State Archive Pamphlet on
the
matter written by Matthew Magda entitled "The Welsh in Pennsylvania."
Ruth Ann had a letter with a portion of the pamphlet transcribed by her
cousin that hit this topic right on. I am working on locating a copy or
getting one through an inter-library loan. I will post to the list when
this is available.
Hope this helps!

Hello,
I'm new to the list and new to family research. I have been looking at my husband's welsh ancestry, I don't have very much yet but here it is anyway:
Charles TARLING married to Annie Jarman LEWIS (1885)
daughters - Agnes May b. 6th Sept 1897 (Ebbw Vale) - my husband's grandmother, also Alice b. 1900 (+ probably more)
Elizabeth HOCKEY married to John CARTWRIGHT (1894 Newport)
son - Thomas John b. 31st Mar 1897 - my husband's grandfather. daugher Nel (Eleanor??) (+ probably more)
If anyone has a connection or anymore information on these families I would be interested to hear from you.
Kind Regards
Sarah

Has there been a list created for Iron Works as there has been for the
Coal Mines? I am looking in the Ebbw Vale/ Beaufort area for the years
1790-1860. Any direction would be much appreciated.
