Am sending this message again as I don't seem to have seen it come thru yet.
My apologies if I have missed it and everyone is having a repeat.
I have been told by an aquaintence in Wales that there is a cave by DEVILS BRIDGE at Aberystruth that has a local interest plaque noting that at some time ( I don;t know when ) a very poor family lived in this cave whose name was BATT. Does anybody know anything about it. ? can someone shed some light on this local story ?
My Batts are very illusive and just when I think i've found them, they fly off to somewhere else !.

Hello fine people. I'm told that one method of tracing hard to find relatives is to examine vacination records. Would anyone be able to help me in this regard: I'm Looking for a girl child [ my mother] born circa 1914 at or very near Pontllanfraith, Wales. I have two seperate birthdates: May 5th 1914 and Feb,6th 1915. Her name was Daisy- Bell. Probable last names were Tithecott, Perry, Trick or Fisher. The first actual documented proof I have of her existence is when Daisy was enrolled at the Pontllanfraith Infants School in 1918 under the surname Tithecott. Daisy- Bell was apparently raised from infancy;but never adopted ; by the William and Fanny Tithecott family of Pontllanfraith, Wales. Nobody seems to be able to offer any solid evidence about Daisy's birth origin. I'm hopeful that she would have been vaccinated and the records may reveal something. Can someone help me access these vacination records? Thank-you kindly.

To all listers:
The lost has been found. At the prodding of some NewBrunswick List
subscribers I found the site at the rootsweb Archives. I belong to a total
of 11 lists and really did not want the daunting task of searching all 11
archs. But as the replies came in I figured I sh/try. My first hit was pay
dirt. there were 2 entries and one was what I was looking for.
For those who might in the future need this info the URL is:
http://ihr.sas.ac.uk/gh- this will take you to Guildhall Library-scroll to
"Genealogical Sources at Guildhall" and then to "Lloyd's Captains Register".
in the "Guildhall Library Manuscripts Section". it is a 9 page entry but most
informative.
By hook or by crook I am going to find out from whence I came.
Thank you all for your patience.

If anyone out there is looking at the 1841 Census in the near future, could I please request a look-up in the parish of Llanhennock, Mon.?
I am looking for the family of Lewis Rogers. He had a lot of sons, including Samuel (born 1832) and Lewis (born 1837). All details about this family gratefully received (including whether they were actually in Llanhennock in 1841 - Lewis's birth is the last thing I have linking them to this location, and they turn up in Llanhilleth/Abertillery much later on.)
Many thanks to the kind soul who takes this on.

Hello Mimi,
It is me who wrote about Powells who came to Durham. My great grandfather
was Evan Powell born in Wales His Wife was Elizabeth ? possibly Hughes or
Davis but nothing definite.
Their entries in the 1881 census recorded Jane Street Low Downs,
Hetton le Hole, County Durham were,
EVEN (EVAN) POWELL 37 married coal miner born Wales
ELIZABETH POWELL 30 wife born Wales
MARGARET POWELL 10 daughter born Wales
ELIZABETH ANN POWELL 5 daughter born Trimdon Durham (1891
Census said born Wales)
CAROLINE POWELL 3 daughter born Easington Lane
County Durham
In the 1891 census the family lived in Biddick Row Harraton near Washington
and Chester le Street Durham.
some age difference was receded on some family members and Evan`s name was
recorded as EAVEN
additional members of the family were,
SEPTIMRE/ SEPTIMUS POWELL 10 son born Hetton le Hole Durham
EDWARD 4 son born Wardley
Durham (my grandfather)
MARY A 1 dau born
Washington Durham.
That is all I know about the family they had a Welsh born boarder in 1891
who was 57 and called DAVIS and my father had cousins born in Wales called
HUGHES.
My father also had relatives on Humberside and he remembered them as buying
a Hobby Horse ride and travelling the country to fairs etc.
Thanks for your interest , Ashley.

The parish registers of Timsbury Somerset are full of Powells and Chiverses.
I am waiting for the 1851 census of Somerset to get the 1841 families with
more definite ages, and it appears that most of the Powells were gone from
Somerset by the mid 1850s. My line of Somerset Powells definintely went to
Wales where, in 1859 in Tredegar Joseph Powell married Margaret Williams.
Their first known child a daughter Eliza was born at Oakenshaw(near
Brancpath) in Co. Durham in 1863. Later they returned to Wales(lived in

An examination of the Somerset registers, which I have rented from the LDS
has gone a long way to helping me with the early Powells. It would be in the
interest of any Powell researcher to look at these registers.
Would the person whoses Powells migrated to Durham email me. I have more
information about these folks that I will be glad to share...perhaps we have
a connection. Thanks Mimi Reed
Hello, Listers.
I really do appreciate all the assistance provided by the fantastic
people on these Rootsweb lists. I am listing below information supplied
previously re my Jones/Evans family.
I have a copy of my grandfather's birth certificate, Benjamin Evans. He
was born 8 June 1872 on Porth Street, Newcastle Emlyn, Carmarthen, the
son of Thomas Evans and Jemima Jones Evans.
1871 Cenarth Census Information:
Porth Street
Jemima Evans - wife - mar - 29 - laundress - Newcastle Emlyn
Margaret Evans - dau - 10 months - Newcastle Emlyn
William Jones - brother-in-law - Unmar - 23 - county court underbailiff
- Newcastle Emlyn
Maria Jones - sister-in-law - unmar - 19 - laundress - Newcastle Emlyn
1881 Census information:
17 Hill Street Bedwellty, Monmouth, Wales
FHL Film 1342263 PRO Ref RG11 Piece 5247 Folio 35 Page 4
Thos. Evans - W - 48 - M - Cardigan, Wales
Maggie Evans - 10 - F - Carmarthen, Wales
Benjamin Evans - 8 - M - Carmarthen, Wales
David J. Evans - 5 - M - Monmouth, England
Rebecca J. Evans - 3 - F - Monmouth, England
Samuel Rees - U - 20 - M - Monmouth, England
Daniel Davies - U - 16 - M - Monmouth, England
1891 Census:
150 Hill Street, Rhymney
EVANS, Thomas, HD - W - 57 - coal miner - CARD Llandyfwg * Llandyfriog?*
Benjamin - S - 18 - coal miner - CMN, Newcastle Emlyn
David J. - S - 15 - coal miner - MON, Bedwellty
Rebecca J. - D - 13 - scholar - MON, Rhymney
DUGGAN, Maggie - D - M - 20 - CMN - Newcastle Emlyn
DUGGAN, George - SIL - M - 21 - Millwright - Hef - Lyonshall
This is the total of information I have re this family. If anyone has
access to the 1861 or 1851 Cenarth census information, perhaps I may
learn the names of Jemima's parents. Finding Thomas' parents/family is
probably going to be a lot more difficult. I have been to the LDS FHC
and have yet to find additional info, but perhaps it's because I am so
very new to family history.
If anyone recognises any of these people as possible members of their
family, sure would love to hear from you. Thank you for any and all
help.
Warmly,
Judy Gray
