Hi Ray
You have made my day. I haven't been doing the family history for long only
about 6 months and I have put the George name on the site with no response
several times. I will certainly follow this up.
Many many thanks

Hi, I'm looking for a Joseph Jayne. He said he was from Varteg when he
married Sarah Brown abt 1859, but I don't know if that is where he was living
at the time or where he was born. Could someone check the 1851 census for
Varteg and see what he says about his birth (either Varteg or Corston,
Pensford, Somerset.)
The approximate date of his birth was 1833.
Thanks a lot

Yes Paul,
There are a few still living in and around Blackwood with about 30 to 40
listed in the 'phone book. Not a very common name so they probably are
related somewhere along the line.

Cathy,
Will look for your Price file and let you know if it opens ok.
I got the information on the two William Prices last fall when my daughter and I
visited Wales. No, I did not find it in the town of Blaenavon, even tho we did
visit there and met a Dando whose wife had been a Price.
I found a listing of many burials in the BlaenauGwent areal of Wales at the
library in Newport, where we spent the week.
Wish I'd known of your Englands then.
Try this email list for a while:

I've met a major Dando researcher on this list. Just ask if anyone has a
listing of the burials for you England family, and the approximate dates.
Connie
No - she was Sarah Jane Thomas (nee Davies)

Hello David
Thanks for your info.
Was your grandmother's name Mary Gunter? My grandmother was a Caroline
Gunter born in Waenavon 06.12.1912. Waenavon is still there, but no longer
any houses. The Whistle pub is still there however.
I will keep an eye out in my research for Mary Gunter to see if she appears

Gunter a very old name in the area. Part of the Blorenge Mountainside is
still called Waun Mary Gunter. She owned leases which she subleased to
Blaenavon Ironworks Company in about 1790. There are still about 40 Gunter
names in the Phone Book. Waunavon was a very small hamlet famous as having
the highest Railway Station in England and Wales., but very few dwellings. I
do not understand your references to censuses 1911 and 1921. They have not
yet been published. The latest is 1891.
Hope this helps.

My name is Norma Black. Searching for my Great Grandparents who were born in Wales. Not sure of the county.
Their names were John Holmes and Sarah Ann Williams. John was born in 1852. They had one daughter, my Grandmother, Sarah Ann Holmes born on January 5, 1875. They immigrated to the United States after her Mother died. Thank you for any help received.

Hi Leanne,
My grandparents married about 1891-3. They were from Garn yr Erw and their
first 'home' was at Waun Mary Gunter, a farmhouse type building a short
distance down the track leading from the Blaenavon-Brynmawr road past the
Whistle Inn. I believe it is still in existence. I'm not sure if that area
was known as Waunavon but it is certainly very close.

Penyca is probably Ebbw Vale. Although the Welsh for the town is now Glyn
Ebwy this really relates to the valley which is how the English named the
town. To the local Welsh, however, the town was known as Pencae or Penycae
(end or top of the field). Orally in the Gwent dialect it would have been
Bence.
Easy. Got that?
Clear as mud. :-)

Hello to all on the list.
Could someone, with access to information on the 1911 census please give me
some information on the family name Gunter living in Waenavon Monmouthshire.
My grandmother Caroline Gunter was born on 06.12.1912 in Waenavon. By the
time of the 1921 census she had become an orphan as her parents died when
she was three.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Hi
Just to clarify , Abertillery was just one place, maybe the largest, in the
huge old Parish of Aberystruth. The Glamorgan Boundary was in the Rhymney
Valley although it has been moved a bit sometimes. Hope that helps.
