I'm new at this and need help!! Where do I start to find anything about
ancestors born in Wales? I have a name, & date of birth, 1781 & listed as
being born in Montgomeryshire. He left Wales about 1830.
Hello
I'm new to this list, coming over from the Glamorgan list.
My interest is in PRICE around the 1830's-
Is there any kind person who does look-ups for the 1861 census?
I'm looking for Thomas and Sarah Price with a daughter of around 1yr old
(only details are initials M.J...not very helpful I know!!) living in Ebbw
Vale in the early 1860's.
Sorry, I don't know much about the area to know whether this search would
be too big a job for a look-up.
If it is, can anyone tell me which library might hold this census.?
Many thanks

Hello Judy
I have checked the 1861, but haven't found this family. This is not
surprising as many parts of the 1861 are missing/destroyed.

Oh no John, you are quite wrong.<G>
It is best known for the house which sits alone at the crossroads (to
Bedwellty just a mile up the road) "Pant-y-Cefn House, where my cousin
Sheila Burton and hubby live. Has been in that family for 100 years now.

Markham was the second "model" village built in the Sirhowy valley during
the early part of this century (the first being Oakdale, which was
recently discussed on the list). It is situated midway between Argoed
and Hollybush.
Building of the village (approx 400 houses) and colliery commenced about
1912, and it takes it's name after Sir Arthur Markham, a director of the
Tredegar Iron & Coal Company, who built both the houses & colliery.
Markham is probably best known for it's Brass Band, which since it's
formation in 1928 has won many local & national competitions.

Hi All
I first posted this in May and this is a follow up for those who though I
must do something about this (VBG) and any new subscribers.
You may not know that there is a project called "FreeBMD", to transcribe all
the England and Wales Civil Registration indexes into a data base for FREE
online access. It's a huge job, with
millions of events to transcribe. Each entry has to be transcribed twice by
different transcribers to verify the results for accuracy.
I am a syndicate coordinator for the 1846 marriages (previously only Dec
quarter), and am based in New Zealand. At present there are 7 other
volunteers who are members of the syndicate and we would really like some
MORE New Zealanders to join us. I believe that it is a good way to put back
into the Genealogy community something in return for all the help that other
members have given me in my research.
Our syndicate has a sponsor who has underwritten the cost of buying ALL of
the fiche for all events for the year 1846. Volunteers would need access to
a fiche reader and e-mail to participate.
Check out the BMD Website: http://FreeBMD.RootsWeb.com/
To join or for any info re the syndicate and costs, please contact me or
visit the pages regarding the NZ part of the project at:

Hello,
I am trying to locate an ancestors marriage which I am presuming will be
in the Bedwellty parish records.
Edward Jenkins married Susannah Rowlands circa 1834-5, they lived at
Rock, Blackwood where they had :-
Ann b 1836,
Rachel b1838,
Samuel b 1841,
Lemuel b 1846
and Mary b 1849
before finally moving to Dowlais where they had :-
Joshua b 1851
Ann Jenkins (above) is my Gt Gt Gt Grandmother but I do not have her
church/chapel baptismal record.
Does anybody have access to these records for Bedwellty where they could
check the above marriage and Ann's birth?
I live in London so cannot get to Cwmbran to check for myself. Any help
is much appreciated.
Edward Jenkins was born at Risca in 1804, I havn't got his entry either.
Also...Is anybody out there related to the Angell family from Fochriw, I
know it is in Glamorgan, however as it is so close to Blaenau Gwent I
thought there may be some other researchers.
regards

Hi List,
Just joined as I have just found new family information. An old family story says that an Elizabeth EDWARDS was a maid of a Lord Herbert in or near Brecon. She had an illegitimate daughter by him about 1820. Can anyone tell me where or what Lord Herbert may have been connected to.
Thanks for your time

Hi Connie:
I live in Hagerstown. I was brought up in Maesteg, Glamorgan back in the
1940's. Do I have any neighbours there? Gordon
Dee,
There were Pritchards who came from Wales to Frostburg, Allegany County
Maryland. Some still live there. Frostburg had quite a few families from
the Blaenau Gwent area to mine coal in the Georges Creek area...including
my grandfather.

Hi folks - about time I posted my interests again. Looking for WILLIAMS
of Abergavenny, with family links to Sebastopol, Llanfoist and Llanelly.
Other family names associated with my WILLIAMSs are MEREDITH (Trevethin/
Llanfrechfa/Llanfoist) and PRICE (poss of Llanelly, Breconshire).
I've put an outline WILLIAMS tree going back to about 1810 on my Web
Page (see below) and hope that this might help others researching the
same line.
I also maintain a so far unpublished database of WILLIAMS for the
Abergavenny area, from which I'm happy to do look-ups.
My site also includes IGI Batch #s for MON.
Cheers,
Dick Williams

I have traced my Pritchard roots back to the early 1800s. My
line was entrenched near the village of Cmwyoy in northern
Monmouth near the Brecon & Hereford borders. The area is north
of Abergavenny real near the Llanthony Priory site. I have found
many Pritchard's but no Warner. It is a very common name. Good
luck.

Hi John,
That's because they've unfortunately gone out of business.
Shame, as they produced several small village histories which are invaluable
sources for genealogists. (I've got two on Abersychan.)
And that's why the book is now so difficult to get hold of. Even Oakdale library
has only one very old and tattered copy.
If you've got a copy - hang on to it !
Cheers,
Glyn

Hello, I'm looking for for
WARNER PRITCHARD
b. Abt. 1820
b. Possibly in Wales
I have heard that he was born in Wales, but I do not know where in
Wales.
Do you know if there are certain areas in Wales where Pritchard are
more prevalent and common than other counties or areas?
Warner Pritchard's wife, Ruth Dolton,
was born 1818 in Virginia (possibly West Virginia) , United States.)
His children were Samuel, Frances,Clarissa, Sarah and Henry Pritchard

Mye Goodye Cosines,
I have been studying the surname of Markham for quite some time.
One of the areas that I know virtually nothing about, is the area
in Wales named Markham. Any and all information on this place will
be appreciated.
I would like to know specifically the origins of this place name.
After who or what was Markham after, or name changes etc.
