Hello John
Thanks for the info regarding borders. A family line from the Beaufort area
which I'm working on keeps showing up on both the Llangattock, Brecon and
the Bedwelty Parish Registers and I couldn't figure out why.

Hi All
Recently I received information from LDS where the following was shown as a
source.
Any ideas as to where this register may be located?
"Non Parochial Register "
32 Glamorgan
Welch Wesleyan Circuit
Merthyr-Tydfil Glamorgan in three counties
Glamorgan, Monmouth and Brecon
Vol 1 1807-1827
Thanks.

Carol,
What you need first is the British Civil Registration document for your
grandfather Cyril Walter Davies' birth. This will give the Names of his
parents including the maiden name of his mother. After this, using the names
of his parents go back to the Registration Index and find the marriage
document for his parents which will give the name and occupation of his
parent's fathers and where they were living when they were married you can
use this information to again search the censuses to find out more about the
family.
Try and start looking, for the marriage entry, starting about two quarters
before their first child was born and going back in time. You maybe able to
determine that from the family in the 1881 or 1891 Census.
There is a section on www.cyndislist.com that tells how to obtain these
documents. Its in the United Kingdom area. If you need help with searching
the index you can contact me for more assistance.

Sorry - I don't have access to the 1871 (and it's probably not indexed
anyway so finding addresses would be a nightmare :-)

Hi
I have been sitting on this site for quite some time and have been
reading with great interest but now after masses of research I need a
little help if at all possible.
I am trying to track down any Thomas MEREDITH's born in the early part
of the 1800's and have the following details but now require their
occupations
Lower Hendre
Llagattock Vibon Avel, Monmouth - living with the Nicholas family
Thomas MEREDITH widowed aged 80 born Wonastow, MON
151 Hill Street
Bedwelty, Monmouth
Thomas MEREDITH married aged 78 born Brecknock
Sarah MEREDITH wife aged 68 born Carmathen
William MEREDITH widowed aged 38 born Rhymney
If anyone could check out the occupations for these MEREDITHs for me I
would really appreciate it. If possible if anyone is able to check the
1871 for these addresses too, I'll be happier than a pig in it's sty :)
Thanks so much

Hello list
I know this is a long shot, but I just have to try.
Has anyone come across a John HUNT b. 1811 at Westbury-on-Severn in
Gloucestershire getting married to an Eliza ? b. 1810 from the previously
named Monmouth. My information is from the post 1851 censuses and I have all
the information I need about John but nothing about his wife prior to 1851.
Any help would be appreciated.

This is a very useful on-line alphabetical listing of places in
England & Wales (courtesy of The FHS of Cheshire), showing which County a
place was in, and also which Registration District was responsible for each
place's B, M & D CERTIFICATES, and CENSUSES (1837-1930).
http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/civreg/places/
It can be used in conjunction with the on-line list of Registration Districts
in England and Wales 1837-1930, which can be accessed from it.
However, a word of warning - there can be pitfalls! A number of places in
Wales have the same names as others, and perhaps only larger places are
included in the list.
At least make sure the COUNTY listed is the one you're expecting - though
there can even be places of the same name within the same County (eg Ystrad,
Glamorgan)!

Hi Listers,
Does anyone have any information on David BOWEN, b. c. 1829 in Pengam,
(formerly Pontiber Pengam) Monmouthshire? His parents were apparently born
elsewhere in South Wales.
Also does anyone have any information on the little village or the coal mines
there, or any type or census, or any newspapers in existence on that time.
Pengam is half in Mon and half in Glam.
I would be very appreciative for any scrap of info.
Thank you very much.
Best regards,

Formal legal adoption did not start until 1927.
The most likely scenario before that date is that the child would have
been taken in and brought up by a close relative.

Where did the information on the death certificates come from? If the
marriage was at a church/chapel in Abertillery the correct civil
registration district was probably Pontypool, so both sources could well
be correct.
The answer lies in the marriage certificate - it shouldn't be difficult
to locate the entry in the GRO indexes and order a copy.
