This is a very old Welsh name. Can be spelled Goronwy, Gronow, Grono, etc.
The name as spelled Grenow can be Cornish.
A lot of Welsh names are Cornish and a lot of Cornish names seem to be also
Welsh names.

Hello Michael,
There are 17 people with the surname GRONOW on the 1881 census for
Monmouthshire and 23 people with the surname PALSER.
There are no people with the PALSER surname in Cornwall in 1881 but
there are 72 in Gloucestershire none of whom were from Cornwall. I
checked Gloucestershire because that was where a lot of the Monmouth
Gronows were from.
I have a look up request on my web site for all Wales 1881 census and
some English counties for 1881.

Sharon:
Garndiffath is a hamlet just north of Abersychan. There are two cemetaries
which I know of, Sardis and St Johns. The civil registration district is
Pontypool and you will find Garndiffath in Trevithan on the Census returns.
If you find any other cemetaries in Garndiffath with burials prior to 1870,
drop me a line. I'm researching the Watkins family in that area. Good
Luck. Georgia

Hello Listers, my name is Jim, and I have just subscribed to your 'List'.
Would you be kind enough to help me, or point me in the right direction on
the following?
I am looking for the marriage and family of my G.G.Grandfather, a William
Edwards to Ann Powell in Blaina, Gwent 1832. There was also a son William
who might have been baptised on the same day. Not much to go on I am
affraid.
Kindest regards to all, Jim.

Hi all,
I am interested if anyone knows anything on the following people (my
great-grandparents):
Thomas
Gronow
Palser
Price
The place of interest is Blaenavon, the time period being this century. What
would be the best records to look at to find details of people in Blaenavon?
Also, does anyone know anything about the surnames Gronow and Palser? None of
the surname lists that I have checked, up until now, have any entries for
these
surnames. I have a feeling that Palser may have originated in Cornwall.
Many thanks for your kind consideration.
Michael Thomas.

Hi everyone;
I'm new to this so bear with me. I am researching my paternal ancestors.
BENNETT Alfred christened 6 Jan 1842 Caerleon. The IGI says Llangattock
Juxta, Caerleon. m. 14 April 1870 Caerleon to WILLIAMS Elizabeth b 1849
Caerleon.
The 1881 census has him living in Mill Street Caerleon, but at sea on the
night. His wife Elizabeth is head of the house. In the next census 1891
he is listed as being a homebound sailor.
Are there any mariners records for Newport that might give me ships at sea
or homeward bound on these dates?

My Great Grandfather was James Dando, born in Vartag(e?) Wales in 1839
His wife was Sarah Price, born in Blaen Avon Wales in 1841.
The married in 1857 in Somerset County Pennsylvania and moved to the
Georges Creek Coal mining region in Allegany County Maryland, where
their children were all born.
James Dando was not a miner. He worked for the mine owners doing office
work. Later on he became a Judge of the Circuit Court and a Member of
Maryland's House of Delegates. His son, William Dando, followed his
father in these professions.
In 1961 I visited Blaen Avon Wales and found several Dando families
still living there. I wasn't interested in genealogy at the time, darn
it.
The parents of James Dando were William Dando and Elizabeth Jefferies.
The parents of Sarah Price were William and Jane Price.
Is anyone familiar with any of these names??
Thanks for any help forthcoming...

Can anyone tell me if there is a map site on the net that would show me the

I know my G Grandfather, John Lamb, was killed there in Feb.1895. Was there a

Thanks

Hello everyone,
I have an interest in Ebbw Vale for my Family History but have a hit a
brick wall with a branch of the James surname in Tredegar.
I am trying to find Hazel James (she may have married) who lives in
Tredegar, daughter of William Arthur Emrys James and Ivy Weston who
married on 17th. May 1932 in the English Baptist Chapel, Church Street,
Tredegar. Hazel is related to the Westons who live in Ebbw Vale, one of
the family runs a Butchers Shop. They have been unable to help me with
my search for Hazel.
I am 2nd. cousin to Hazel.
I hope someone can help with this branch.
also researching Grimes in the Ebbw Vale area and Shepperd, Shepherd in
Tredegar.
