I have a Robert SLOAN b 29 Aug 1816 Kirkoswald, younger brother of one of my
gr gr grandmothers Elizabeth SLOAN. Can go back a few generations from her
if it's the same branch.
Elizabeth married John CARSON and in the 1881 Census Girvan they are 66 and
79 years old and living with one of their sons, also John, daughter-in-law
and grandchildren at 31, Knockcushion St. Girvan where they had a house and
fish shop next door (now, I believe, converted into an amusement arcade).
It's situated right on the harbour at Girvan.

I am researching Sarah Sloan, b. abt. 1842 in Girvan, daughter of Robert
The death records for the parish of Girvan provided me with a lot of
Sarah: she died January 22, 1895; was the widow of 1. William
Thomas station master and 2. John Hazlehurst, joiner. Her occupation was
"ladies nurse". She was the daughter of Robert Sloan, Master Mariner
(deceased) and Mary Henderson Sloan. Cause of death was apoplexy (there are
2 other words after this that I can't make out), her son-in-law was Sam
Nelson, and he lived at 11 Knockushion(?) St. in Girvan. (is Knockushion the
name of a street, or is this spelled wrong?).
Under "when and where died", it states "1895 January 22 9h 15m AM Free
Church Manse Avenue Girvan (usual residence Newton Kennedy Girvan).
Does anyone have any ties to Sarah, her husbands, or her family? If so,
contact me. Thanks.
