I find them to be excellent websites. There are a few options available to you. You can copy and paste the urls into your browser, try a different browser or simply use keywords in a search engine. Keywords: National Library of Scotland Ordnance Survey maps https://maps.nls.uk/os/ The specific map I suggested, which shows Liffnock and East Liffnock, is Ayrshire, Sheet XXIII, Survey date: 1857, Publication date: 1860 [NLS maps OS six-inch 1st edition]. https://maps.nls.uk/view/74425810 In this case Liffnock and East Liffnock lay between Hurlford and Galston in the mid nineteenth century. They haven’t been urbanised but may have been affected by the development of the former railway (branch line from Kilmarnock to Darvel). Liffnock is now known as Liffnock Yard and is just south of Knowehead farm neighbouring the south side of the former railway line which is now the Chris Hoy cycle path [OS Grid ref: NS 472 360]. The yard can be clearly seen on aerial images and has some industrial units (Bing and Google). East Liffnock was south of Holmes on the north side of the former railway directly north of Low Ashyard [OS Grid ref: NS 475 361]. I’ve looked on aerial images and there is no trace of it now. These OS grid references have been generated by the official Ordnance Survey website https://osmaps.ordnancesurvey.co.uk The NLS digital version of the Roy Military Survey of Scotland 1747-1755 (Lowlands) shows Liffnock and Knowhead marked quite clearly, but Holmes is not. https://maps.nls.uk/roy/index.html I hope you appreciate my giving up an hour of my time on a Saturday evening to clarify this for you. Very poor operator!! I do have the Explorer 333 & 334 paper maps which I can navigate quite well. I suspect that Liffnock may now be a part of Hurlford village.
