If it were I searching for information I would be going to ScotlandPeople website to find
their Deaths which I presume are after Civil Reg. in 1855.
Scottish Death Regs. name parents including the mother's maiden surname.
Have you the Birth Reg. of the 1856 child? That might give you more information too.
You also have to remember it was Ireland not Ireland and Northern Ireland in the
timeframe you are researching there.
I found the 1851 census gave place in Ireland for one of my families who came across
c1820. Never know, you might hit the jackpot by finding them on all census, this will also
give you a timeframe for the deaths of parents.

John and Sarah were married in Kilmarnock in 1838, first child born in 1840 (my
greatgrandfather and of course his name was John Crawford), the last child was born in
1856. At some point in the mid 1860s the entire family shifted to Glasgow., were all the
sons had sons they named John! I will try the message boards and see if I get a nibble.
