Sorry for the slow reply, but I have just had two days of grandfather duty.
Thank you all for this information. From what I can see Dalgarven mill is about two mills
up stream form Kilwinning and I would have drive past it quite a number of times. (On my
next trip to Ayrshire, I will have to go in to visit it.)
A Boyd researcher told me that the Boyds of Pitcon (north of Dalry) owned this Mill, but
it seems “too” far away from them and in the middle of the Montgomery lands. We know that
the Pitcon Boyd sold their Estate in 1772 to a Mr McRae.
However, there were the Boyds of Lynn (which is on the south side of Dalry) that might
have owned this mill. Plus there were a number of Boyd/Montgomery marriages, so the mill
might have passed into a Boyd family that way.

You should make contact with Mr. Fergusson who now owns Dalgarven Mill. See
. I can't see anywhere that
says it was owned by the Boyds... they were apparently adversaries of the Fergussons.

Can anyone give me directions to find the above mill on an ordnance map of Ayrshire
I was recently told that it was “owned” by the Boyds of Pitcon, Dalry, but there is
also the Boyds of Lynn whom might be a younger branch of Pitcon from an early genreation.
