Hello, I am new to the list, fairly new to genealogy and only recently
discovered that the ancestors we thought were Irish came from Scotland after
all. I received much of the following information from a distant cousin I
met on internet. She was kind enough to provide what she had.
Mathew FISHER b. 1740 m. Janet ????, Matthew siblings were: Thomas Fisher,
Andrew Fisher b.1743, John Fisher b. 1747
Mathew and Janet (?) FISHER had at least 1 child: Agnes FISHER (b.
Mauchline, Ayrshire 2/25/1749/50 d. 3/22/1800)
Agnes FISHER m. Andrew NOBLE (bd??); they had the following children: John
NOBLE, James NOBLE, (dau.)Noble, Allan Whitfoord Noble, William Noble, Mary
Ann Noble (4/16/1771- 2/25/1773) and Mary Ann Noble (b.5/16/1773 Mauchline,
Ayrshire - 2/6/1850, Mauchline, Ayrshire)
Mary Ann NOBLE married Hendry LYELL (b. 8/3/1767, Newburgh, Fife - d.
2/10/1857 Glasgow, son of William BALMAIN and Janet LYELL); their children
were: William LYELL, Agnes LYELL (b. 12/4/1795, m. John DICKIE, Mauchline,
Ayrshire), Janet LYELL, James LYELL, Mary LYELL (b. 9/13/1801, Mauchline,
Ayrshire - d. St.John, New Brunswick, Canada), Jean LYELL, Andrew Noble
LYELL, Joan LYELL, David LYELL
Mary LYELL married James SMITH (b. 12/25/1801, Mauchline, Ayrshire- d. St.
John, NB, CAN): their children were: James SMITH, Jean SMITH, Mary Lyell
SMITH (m. Wm. Cameron, 4 children), Agnes SMITH (b. 3/28/1832 Glasgow -
d.Bradford PA or Salamanca NY, USA) Margaret Noble SMITH (m. Thos. McGowan,
7 children), Hugh SMITH, Janet SMITH (b. 8/13/1837 -d. 10/29/1907 m. James
Woodburn Wilson, 10 children), Jenny SMITH and Helen SMITH (m. James SHAW, 4
Agnes SMITH m. Andrew JACKSON in 1850 in St. John NB, Canada. Andrew Jackson
died in 1875. In 1876 Agnes SMITH JACKSON and children moved to US-
Salamanca NY, Bradford PA area. Agnes JACKSON's son John married Lena SHAW
(daughter of Helen and James SHAW???).
Any information on any branch of this family or any advice would be greatly
