Hello all - I've been 'away' for several months in Devonport sans computer,
due to illness in the family. In the meantime my cousin has been to N.I. and has brought
back some info. on our Goodwin family from Nobb's book, duplicating Irene's book
on the return of the Goodwin family to N.I. from P.J. in DECEMBER 1795.
Having read and re-read the story of the voyage of the Fancy and the Endeavour, I'm
wondering whther that arrival date should be 7 January 1796?
The Fancy and Endeavour left for India on September 18, yet they somehow ended up in New
Zealand - can anyone explain why they ended up there rather than P.J. or N.I.? (I realise
there were stowaways on board who had to be returned to P.J. but what was a ship
travelling to India doing so far off the Australian coastline?)
If the Goodwins DID arrive on N.I. in December 1795 in N.I., what OTHER ship would they
have arrived on? If there was no other ship arrival in December, is the December 1795 date
a mistake and should it be January 1796?
I'm really curious to know whether the Goodwin family were unfortuante enough to be
associated with not one, but two shipwrecks while they were on N.I. - like many of our
ancestors, they arrived on N.I. and were put onshore just before the Sirius was wrecked.
Best wishes all,
