Hi Listers, Don't know if this is classified as 'venting your spleen' !!
I've become continually frustrated with 'gaps' in our series of records at
TAHO particularly lower court and police records getting closer to 1825 when VDL was still
part of NSWs. When you look in the SLNSW's catalogues in both their online and
manuscripts collections you find many examples of what I'm talking about. I know the
former State Archivist, Ian Pearce spent many years trying to get these records returned
with very little success. For some research I've been able to get a response from
'Ask a librarian' or hired a researcher for more detailed exploration. However to
delve into some of the records, which aren't even on microfilm but the original
volumes you'd have to visit the Mitchell library physically. Perhaps like many I'm
not in a position to be able to do that neither travel wise of financially. I just wish we
had 'some' form of copy of all of these missing volumes within our TAHO holdings.
It would make life so much easier and that vital clue for your next 'AH HA !!'
might be right there beckoning... Have others experienced the same sort of vexation?
