I am hoping someone can help me with this problem. I have found a William
SMITH obtained permission to marry Charlotte BYRON CON 52/1/3 Page 415. I
have a copy of this document. William came to Tasmania on the Lord Lyndoch.
My biggest problem I have found is there are two William Smith's who came on
this ship, both aged 20. I have found their records as follows:
#2 (2231) got his Free Certificate in 1842, so he wouldn't need
permission to marry. Although #1 should have been free by then as well,
but he judging by his record he might have got an extension. (And WS on
the other voyage of the LL was apparently headed to Norfolk Island.)
#1 would seem most likely but I'd go digging elsewhere (on Trove, the
muster on Ancestry, marriage certificate) to see if you can find
anything more about either/all of them.
