In early Tasmanian survey maps showing who occupies which block of land and acreage
involved, it describes the block as being "Granted" or " Pur."
I assume this means the "Granted" blocks were issued by the State free of charge
and that "Pur." means the block was purchased. Would someone please kindly
clarify for me the meaning of "Granted" and "Pur." in this context?
If purchased then from whom, the State or previous occupier? I would think that if a
person was granted land free of charge then this land would be subject to reselling
Any clues anyone?
